#CampWarnerBros – Week 5 – DIY Teen Titans Character Banks

July 22, 2020 by Ashley Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post for Camp Warner Bros featuring Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans and a fun DIY Bank activity.

This week is another fun one for us. We love Teen Titans and I love sharing my love for it with my son. He helped me make popcorn to watch the movie together because he was so excited when I told him that we were going to watch Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans.

The movie was a huge hit and I just couldn’t hold back the smiles and my laughter because my little guy is at that age where he gets really into the movies and he will jump up and act out the scenes. It was just so cute watching him try to jump and kick like some of the characters.

Teen Titans DIY Character Banks

I don’t know if your children are like my son, but he just loves collecting coins. He currently has one full bank and has confiscated my Wonder Woman bank as his own. (Yes I know we should cash in all the coins, but he really doesn’t want me to empty the banks.) Since he loves banks I knew he would be excited to make one of his own.

I am posting the directions below You can click the link here to get the full Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans Character Banks PDF file.

We used cheap spray paint from Menards (getting an 11% rebate for the purchase) and chose to use Modge Podge in the spray can instead of the paste version. I found the spray adhesive to be much easier to apply to the jar. I also had my husband cut the hole in the lid because I was worried I would cut myself while doing it.

A Crafting Frenzy Arises From the Subzero Temperatures

February 18, 2019 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Edit: This crafting post was originally meant to be posted during the arctic freeze that came through the Midwest. That week we had no mail for 3-4 days and my son and I stayed inside the house from Monday-Thursday without leaving. I wasn’t risking taking us out into -17 degree weather (and that was before the windchill). However, with me planning my son’s birthday party this post slipped through without being posted. I hope you still enjoy it.

Lately I have been using crafting as a stress-relief while dealing with a lot of crazy meetings and doctor appointments for Raiden and because of this I am becoming a lot more versed in using Cricut’s Cricut Design Space™. They have been uploading a lot more projects and cartridges to their software for people to use.

If you have a Cricut Access Membership Plan then you can use these cartridges with no additional fees. I have currently been digging through them and I am having so much fun designing projects for family members and friends.

https://perseveringmomma.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/screenrecording_01-22-2019-17-31-54.mp4

They have different cartridges for each state so that you can make state themed gifts for family members that may have moved out of state or ones who just might enjoy having something showing their love for the state they are from. I really enjoyed looking at the Illinois options because even though I don’t live in Illinois any longer it will still always be home to me.

Another favorite set that I have come across is their new unicorn set. This set follows a very popular unicorn themed image while also making it unique to different holidays so that you can holiday themed items that are still cute and personal. Add some text and you have a one of a kind shirt or artwork.

Finding Cartridges in Design Space While Crafting

You can find cartridges pretty easily on Design Space. First you will need to start a new project and have a nice blank canvas to work with. I am going to show you what this looks like on mobile devices and tablets. If you need me to add imagery for using it on a computer I can add that later.

Cricut Design Space Crafting Tips

My blank project is in place and I will then select the image tool on the bottom of the screen. This tool allows you to search through their image database as well as their cartridges. Once you’ve clicked the image tab you will then select cartridges.

Cricut Design Space Crafting Tips

Once you are here you can just browse through the feed or if you know the name of the cartridge then you can type it into the search engine. I knew the name of the unicorn cartridge so I typed in “Unicorn Hair” and it popped right up.

Cricut Design Space Crafting Tips

You can then browse through the contents and select an image that you would like to have on your canvas to work with. Adding them to the canvas is done with a simple click of a button and then you have free reign to customize the project as you wish.

Cricut Design Space Crafting Tips

I chose the Unicorn with roses to play around with since Valentine’s Day is coming up. I thought it was appropriate and might make for a cute shirt or canvas type project for any girl in my life. We will see what it turns into once I add text, but in the meantime I love how quick and easy it was to find this artwork in Cricut’s Cricut Design Space™.

If you don’t have a Cricut.com you can buy them directly from Cricut’s website or from many local retailers. If you plan on getting Cricut Access Standard it is also wise to know that a membership to Access offers you a discount in the Cricut store as well.

DIY Dinosaur Fossil Birthday Banner With Your Cricut

July 18, 2018 by Ashley 2 Comments

If you haven’t been following me here or on social media then you may have missed some of my hints that my son is having a Dinosaur themed birthday party this year. This is something I’m having tons of fun with and have been enjoying making crafts for his party. The first craft I chose to tackle was his Dinosaur Fossil Birthday Banner.

When I first started planning for his birthday I thought I would just use my banner template from last year (which can be found here), but then I saw this cute design in Cricut Design Space™. This design does cost money, but if you have their Cricut Access membership it won’t cost you anything extra.

Making the Dinosaur Fossil Banner

Making the Banner was a lot easier than I expected. I was pretty nervous and scared because I completely messed up a trial project before this and was terrified that I would mess this project up as well. The program will recommend you use the Standard mat (green mat),but unless yours is a broken in and less sticky mat I’d recommend you using the Light mat (the light blue mat).

If you have multiple mats then you can prep all pages at once which will cut back on time making the project, but if you are like me and only have one mat to use you’ll need to do everything step by step.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 12×12 White cardstock
  • 1 12×12 Black cardstock
  • String
  • 2 Blue Cricut Mats

If you do the basic “Happy Birthday Banner you will need all of the above, but if you also choose to make a banner with your child’s name on it like I did then you will need double the supplies so that you can make a second banner.

Step 1

Set out all of your supplies and prep your first mat with a sheet of white cardstock.

Step 2

Load your sheet and follow the prompts on Design Space. You will start cutting and then unload the mat.

Step 3

Weed the mat and reveal your dinosaur head and banner pieces. Once the excess has been removed I recommend using your spatula to help ease the cardstock from the mat. Doing this will help ensure that you don’t have curled cardstock after removal. (I learned this the hard way.)

Step 4

Repeat steps one through three with a second piece of white cardstock. This will contain the dinosaur tail and the rest of your banner pieces.

Step 5

You are going to repeat steps one through three again, but this time you will be using your black cardstock. If you want to you can cut off some of the excess paper. I would do this if you plan on using the scraps for other projects. Weeding the Black is a little more detailed as you are weeding each individual letter.

Step 6 (optional)

If you want to make a second banner with your child’s name on it you will need to cancel the project and then click customize. Once here you will have to edit it to have each individual letter in your child’s name instead of having the project say “happy birthday”. This took me a couple of minutes to do. You also will want to count the banner pieces and delete any unnecessary pieces.

Step 7 (optional)

Cut and weed your new project just as you did with it the first project. I was able to only need to cut one sheet of white and half of a sheet of black.

Step 8

Assembly. The holes cut into this banner are quite small so you will need a thin string to assemble the banner with. I used fishing line. Lay out all of your pieces in order to get an idea of how long you need your string. Don’t forget to glue the letters on. I went the simple route and used a glue stick.

Step 9

Cut your piece of string and begin sliding the banner pieces on in order. Make sure you are putting everything on from left to right so that people can read it when you hang the banner at their birthday party.

And with that you have a complete pre-historic birthday banner!!

Happy Birthday, little ones!

My First Cricut Explore Air 2 Tester Project

July 10, 2018 by Ashley 2 Comments

As you may remember I purchased a Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine as a late Christmas gift to myself and recently posed the question about whether or not this would be my new hobby/obsession. If you’d like to read about setting up my crafting space you can check that out here.

I have been so excited to start using my Cricut Explore Air 2 that I’ve been planning projects, but didn’t want to attempt one that might not turn out because I don’t know what I am doing. That is why I decided to start with the Starter Project that’s included with the Cricut Explore Air 2.  When you purchase your Cricut you will get a free 2 week trial of Access, but it is smart to look into you options and purchase Access from the start.  With a Cricut Access Membership Plan you gain access to tons of fonts and projects in Design Space with no additional fees.

The Starter Project was very simple which I was very thankful for. It came with cardstock already cut to size for the card that I was to be making. I applied the cardstock to the green mat and inserted the black pen that came with my Cricut.

*I would recommend making your new mat a little less sticky by patting your hands on the mat to remove some stickiness otherwise you may find it difficult to remove the cardstock when you complete your cut.

Halfway through the cut you will need to change out the pen for the scoring tool so that the machine will make your card fold line. This is a simple task because the machine will leave the tool adapter in the middle of the machine for easy access.

Once it’s done cutting you will remove the cardstock from the mat and fold it in half. From the inside you will then slide in the colored paper as the background to the cuts that were made.

As you can see it was a very simple and quick project!

Planning a Kids Party The Easy Way

January 28, 2018 by Ashley Leave a Comment

After throwing my son’s first birthday party last year I learned a few things that are making the process much smoother this year. I struggled to remember everything last year so I wanted to make it much easier to remember things this year and I thought I would share some of my tips with you on how to make planning a kids party easier and less stressful.

Organization.

Organization is the number one thing that you need to think about. If you make a plan and lists you won’t be as likely to forget anything for the party. It certainly would be terrible if you forgot dinner or heaven forbid the birthday cake! I like to be overly organized so I make a guest list that includes everyone’s addresses and names. This makes it easy to send out invites and check off people as they RSVP to the party. I make my guest list using Microsoft Excel, but if you don’t have Microsoft Office you can always download Open Office online and use their spreadsheet program instead.

Choose a Theme.

Choosing a theme is another big step. Once you have chosen a them for the party you can get back to the organization of the party. I love lists so I make lists for everything. You can see an example of how I organize for my son’s party below.

I like to use Microsoft OneNote for my lists because I can access them from any device and edit them as I go. You can see here I have a semi-detailed list of the various things that will be needed for my son’s Dino Dig birthday party. Last year I madd a lot of his birthday decorations from hand (all of which you can find here) and this year I am still making a lot of his decorations, but will be using my Cricut to help make it a faster process than it was last year. I am so thankful that I won’t need to cut them all out by hand again this year.

Throw Everything Together.

There are many ways you can throw everything together for the party, but I personally find myself a plastic tote to put everything in as I make it and/or buy it from the store. Doing this will help to guarantee that I don’t lose anything before the party. It also helps with transportation because we don’t have his parties in our home so we have to bring everything with us for the party. As you purchase or complete a task make sure you check them off of your list so that you know it’s done. This is helpful when looking back at everything as well as gives you a sense of accomplishment every time you complete a task.

How do you prepare for a kids birthday party?
