Not Every Pregnancy is the Same

August 26, 2015 by Ashley Leave a Comment

ultrasound picture

I have heard from so many people over the years how no two pregnancies are the same and I never really understood why people said that until now.  I used to laugh it off because my first pregnancy was one of the easiest things I ever went though. (Minus the adoption of my daughter of course.  That was quite the emotional toll on me.)  This pregnancy, though still early, is quite different from my first one.

This baby is playing games with me.  With my daughter I had no morning sickness what so ever.  Heck I didn’t even have food aversions, but so far I have had nothing but morning sickness and food aversions since week 7 of this pregnancy.  I have been learning slowly how to handle my sensitive stomach and nose.

I take extra care when eating.  I had thought that I was a slow eater before, but I’m even slower now.  I can usually stomach more food if I eat it very slowly with a lot of liquids.  We will see how much longer this lasts, but as of now it is week 11 going on to week 12 and I cannot wait to see what happens in the up and coming weeks!

Did you or are you dealing with morning sickness?

Balboa Simply Soft Blanket Review

May 9, 2014 by Ashley 1 Comment

I was rather excited to be given the chance to review a Balboa Simply Soft Blanket here; I don’t have any children right now, but my best friend is currently pregnant and she is very excited to be having her first child.  I have been looking into great products and it is important to find really soft clothes and blankets for the baby’s tender skin.  Balboa makes some blankets that many people have told me are really soft and perfect for a new baby.  It is because of this that I was so excited to review their blanket.

balboa

Seeing as her baby has not arrived yet my roommate’s daughter was kind enough to dress up my baby doll in the blanket for me so that I could review this item.  I will admit that I was very pleased with this blanket.  I have felt many blankets and have not been very pleased with them because they feel so rough.  I know that I personally hate rough blankets so I always hunt down really soft blankets for me to use around the house.  This really is a simply soft blanket.  I cannot think of a better way to describe this blanket.

My baby doll was made to mimic a real life baby which is why we chose to wrap the doll in the blanket.  I wanted to see just how well a little one would be wrapped in it during the cold winter months.  It did wrap around the baby quite well and also works great draped over bouncer chairs or laid on the ground for the baby to be laid on.  I am one of those paranoid people who would not want to lay a baby on the ground even if it was recently cleaned.  People walk there and I have no way of knowing just how dirty and germ covered the floor may be.

I did fall in love with this Simply Soft Blanket and I believe that my friend’s baby will love it just as much!

How To Make Your Yard A Bird Friendly Habitat

February 13, 2014 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Being the animal lover that I am as well as a lover of nature I find it very important to keep nature as natural as possible.  Many people do not think about these things or they just aren’t sure how to make their yards bird friendly.  This might sound odd and some people might not like birds because of the noise and everything that goes along with them, but I personally love bird watching.

Beginning to Make Your Yard a Bird Friendly Habitat

Making your yard friendly for birds isn’t really all that hard.  Birds love having places to perch themselves as well as having places to make their nests.  Each type of bird has its own ideal place because it makes different sized nests.  If you are seeking to have a variety of different species of birds in your yard the best suggestion is to have a variety of different plant life in your yard.  This should ideally include trees of different types and sizes as well as bushes and flowers.

Additional Accouterments That Help Make a Bird Friendly Habitat

There are a few different things that you can do to make your yard a bird friendly habitat.  Once you have already done the above and added some shrubbery and trees to your yard you will want to think about these little things that you can do to make your yard a little extra special.  The first of which is by adding wooden bird houses to your yard and the second would be to add bird-feeders to the yard as well.

Birdhouses

A great way to get birds to stay in your yard is to put up birdhouses around for the different birds to nest in.  As I mentioned above each different species of bird makes a different kind of bird nest and the different species come in all different sizes.  Because of the above reasons when making or purchasing wooden bird houses you will want to consider the type of birds in your area as well as what ones you have seen around that might want to house in your yard.

If you decide to build a birdhouse I found this great little Building Birdhouses chart that shows you just what different sizes the birdhouse should be for the various different bird species.  If you are going the route of building birdhouses going the wooden birdhouse route is best.  I personally, prefer wooden bird houses over any other type whether I am making it or purchasing the birdhouse.

Bird-feeders

Bird-feeders come in all different shapes and sizes.  There are homemade, do-it-yourself bird feeders that can easily be made just like there are bird-feeders that you can buy from the store.  My parents have a really nice metal one that they bought for their yard.  I also love the little personal bird-feeders that we made as young girls growing up.

It is a very simple little do-it-yourself pine cone bird-feeders project where all you need is string, pine cones, peanut butter, and bird seed.  You just need to tie the string as a loop on the top of the pine cone so that you can hang it from the branches in your tree and then you cover the pine cone in peanut butter and roll it in bird seed.
