Open Enrollment Concerns for Families and Businesses #Aflac

November 5, 2013 by Ashley 1 Comment

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Aflac. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Aflac duckI have not brought my political views to the blog very often and I believe it was actually only once before this that I have even mentioned it.  If you are on Twitter or have friended me on Facebook then you probably don’t know where I stand.  I have switched to the Libertarian party and I admit I am not a fan of the Health Care Reform Act, but regardless of that we need to be informed about Open enrollment.  I want to talk with you today about Open Enrollment Concerns that you might have, things  that Aflac has done a great job of informing people about.

So many people are confused and do not know what to expect.  This new Health Care Reform Act Open Enrollment went live October 1st and there have been many problems and thousands of questions being asked by both employees and businesses about what to expect and what changes will be coming in the upcoming months.  Recently Aflac ran survey in which they found out that 60% of employees have not begun to educate themselves on the changes  that are coming and nearly a third of employees are confused, worried, and/or unsure about the changes that heir employers will be making to their health insurance plans.

Afac FootballAflac has a ton of Open Enrollment Resources available online for both employees and small business owners.  I urge you to not be one of the people in the 60% that are not informed on what is coming.  Do your research and learn what these changes can mean for you and your family because if you do not do this then you might be in for a shock when the changes hit.  There has been a lot of talk about insurance premiums and deductibles rising for many people and this is something you will want to watch for- to make sure you have a health insurance policy that is in your monthly budget.

Michaela’s Health Decision Through Weight Watchers Success

October 29, 2013 by Ashley 10 Comments

Most often, losing a few pounds can be the answer to a healthier way of living. Being overweight can affect your energy levels, blood pressure, cholesterol and how hard your heart and other organs have to work just to do your daily activities. Michaela found herself in this situation, diagnosed with hypertension and type II diabetes at the age of 22; a real wake-up call for her.

Michaela’s Story

weight watchersMichaela was a student in the medical field, learning how to help others with their health and well-being, except that she was not feeling healthy herself. She was always tired at concerned about deteriorating health at such a young age. This young girl knew she needed to make a lifestyle change but, what could she do that would fit into her busy schedule? Doing her research, Michaela decided to try Weight Watchers online program. She not only lost 33 pounds permanently but was able to go offer her medications for the hypertension and diabetes. She is so proud of her accomplishments and now able to be a true role model in her field of medicine and all her future patients.

Benefits of Online Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers can be a healthy weight loss option but frequently falls short for individuals that cannot commit to weekly meetings. If you have made a life-changing decision to lose weight on a plan that fits into your busy schedule, the Weight Watchers online program can be very effective and triumphant. You will find that if you sign up for three consecutive months when, you can automatically save a total of $25 off the program. The online plan works with you through each day so that you can monitor what you eat and stay on track. You are on your honor to weigh yourself in weekly and report it online as your own personal record. You are given all the tools you would normally get at meetings, such as a points calculator, food diary, menu and diet ideas for each day. Join in on forum discussions for tips and support plus you can feel free to contact a professional weight loss supporter for help along with the way. For even more incentive, have a friend join the online plan with you for a little “friendly” competition and support.

The Pros and Cons of Weight Watchers Online

The pros or positive attributes of the Weight Watchers online is:

  • It is more relaxed to fit your schedule
  • You can do it from the comfort of home, school or work
  • You learn the right foods to eat through lists and suggestions provided, along with member support
  • Your weight loss is discreet
  • The forums and online community helps to motivate you through weight loss and exercise goals and tips
  • You can get a personalized plan, including one for the man in your life

The negative or con aspects of the online program include:

  • Losing weight can be a slow process, causing disappointment. However, weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs weekly is the best for long-term results
  • Possible lack of motivation, since you are working alone. This is why it is a plus to join with a friend and also utilize the online forums and community to know you are not alone in your journey.

Just Us Girls: Empowering Self Esteem

October 26, 2013 by Ashley 9 Comments

Self Esteem issues are a huge problem for girls and women alike.  It is through Dove and Kroger’s “Just us Girls” Campaign that they are helping to empower girls and women to be able to move beyond their self esteem issues.  I admit that I have always had self esteem issues ever since I was little.  I hope that down the road when I have a daughter that I will be able to show her what I have learned in my life.

back collage ppI have learned that no matter what you think, or what one person might say about you, that there is that special person(s) out there who see you for what you are inside and out.  The other thing that I have learned over the years is that no one is perfect inside and out.  It is those little flaws and quirks that make you special.  For instance, I hate the curve in my back and I am going to break the main rule I gave myself when I started this blog just for this post.

I couldn’t pick just one picture that really showed you just what the curve in my back does to me so, I took three and made a quick collage for you to look at that shows you the one thing that destroyed my self-esteem as a girl growing up.  It is because of my self-esteem issues over the years that I am sharing Dove and Kroger’s partnership for #GirlsUnstoppable.  Join in on the conversation online with me and other women!

How Kroger & Dove Help Boost Self Esteem

Kroger teamed up with Dove because every 6 in 10 girls have self esteem issues and right now there are proceeds for every Dove purchase is going to helping girls across the country reach their full potential.  The proceeds are going to groups like The Boys And Girls Club, Girl Scouts (something I participated in for 12 years growing up), and Girls Inc.

Dove has a cool little Dove Self-Esteem Toolkit that you can download online for free.  I downloaded mine and I love it.  I suggest you download it as well.  Start a conversation with your daughters and have a “Just us Girls” night!  See what amazing things it could do for her self esteem.  Once you have done this don’t forget to come back and share your story with everyone using the hashtag #GirlsUnstoppable.
