Choosing The Right School System For Your Child Is Stressful!

May 5, 2020 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Ever think you have it all figured out and then your mind is just blown by a new idea? This is me right now. While I was pregnant we had decided that when our son is old enough that we would homeschool him, but now here he is almost 2 and we are questioning our decision.  I am quickly realizing that choosing the right school system isn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.  My son will be 2 this winter and I am already stressed about Preschool.

Why are we questioning the decision to homeschool?

We aren’t questioning homeschooling our son because we have something against it. Instead we are questioning true social aspect of homeschooling him. My hubby had two siblings at home with him so there were no issues with social integration, but little Raiden is an only child, at least for now, and that makes us wonder if we should look into other options.

Where we currently live we are not comfortable with him going to public school. The area is rough and that schools really aren’t a good option for him. That is why we are considering Montessori school as an option for our son.

We live in an area where we are lucky enough to have two different Montessori schools within a reasonable driving distance and it makes us curious to see exactly what they are all about.

What is a Montessori school?

Starting Homeschool Early: 18 Month Old Program

September 5, 2017 by Ashley Leave a Comment

I have always believed in early intervention when it comes to kids education. As a young adult I felt like 3 year old preschool was an important part of the learning process. I feel like it’s needed from a social aspect as well as a developmental aspect as well.  That is why I started to look into different homeschool options.

Thanks to my lovely sister-in-law I learned that many of the homeschooling programs offer lessons for children as young as 18 months old. This month my son turns 18 months old and it seems like the perfect time to begin our schooling journey together. The school year for public schools is beginning and I feel like if we start now maybe we will stay on track with a normal schooling schedule like other kids.

I feel like it is important to start a routine and get my son used to it at an early age so that when or if he goes to a school outside of the home he will be prepared for the structure that comes with it.

18 Month Old Program

With this program from Abeka I will be able to ease him into knowing that school time happens during the week. He will learn what his school book looks like and I will help him with his fine motor skills. After watching my niece and nephew go through this book I know we will have fun exploring and learning about the world around us.

I love that I can start getting Raiden prepared for school by doing school work and activities with him two to three times a week. These activities with include crafts and coloring activities while I teach him about the world around him. This program only consists of one book, but as kids get older the programs slowly become more involved and allow the kids to learn by using 3 major learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic practices. These different styles help to make children learn to adapt their learning styles early on.

So here it goes. I’ll take a deep breath and dive right in.

Let’s get learning!

As the year progresses I will be updating you on my son’s progress. I am fascinated to see how much he changes and to see how much he learns in the upcoming “school year.”

Did you do any early educational intervention with your children?
