I have been one to find it crazy how our law system has to put up some really absurd laws in order to avoid some of these ridiculous lawsuits. Some laws have been put in place to prevent some of these frivolous lawsuits, though you can still file lawsuits for some of these crazy reasons that I am going to share with you. Please let me know your reactions to these lawsuits after reading this because I am still shaking my head in shock for some things people in the United States are will to sue over.
My Favorite Ridiculous Lawsuits
My number one favorite absurd lawsuit is one where a burglar actually sued and won when he was injured while breaking into the man’s home. This happened back in 1997 and the man was sued for a total of $150,000 over the death of the burglar; thankfully; the amount was cut in half because they deemed the dead man as half responsible for his own death seeing as he was drunk and high at the time of his death. It baffles me that someone can sue for bodily injury or death while breaking into someone else’s home.
That lawsuit is pretty ridiculous, but so is this one. In 2000, a woman visited the Universal Halloween Horror Nights Haunted House, but found it to be too much for her. She sued Universal Studios claiming that she suffered emotional distress, mental anguish, and you guessed it extreme fear. So, this woman paid and put herself into a situation where she would be frightened and decided it was just too much for her. She won the case and was awarded $15,000. I personally do not go to Haunted Houses because I know that they are too much for me. I have to concentrate on walking in the dark and cannot stand that kind of fear I feel in Haunted Houses. I know this and because of that I would never go to a Haunted House. I would have guessed that people have enough sense to know their limits, but obviously I was wrong.
If you think these examples are crazy then you should check out these other absurd lawsuits!
