Life’s Messiest Moments: Infant Edition

November 4, 2016 by Ashley 77 Comments

I use affiliate links on my blog. When you click on my links, I may make a commission. Thank you for supporting my family!

This post and giveaway were made possible by iConnect and Dreft. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Sometime’s life’s messiest moments are ones that you would never expect if you didn’t have a kid.  I had thought my life was messy before, but boy was I wrong.  The moment my son was born everything changed.  My life’s messiest moments now come in the form of my infant.  The first messy moment that I came across was when my son was one month old and we had his very first blow-out.

Oh. My. God. I thought that blow-out was going to be the end of me.  My sister and I could have made everyone laugh.  We were a train-wreck and were laughing the entire time.  I was wrong though; those early months are the easy ones.  Yes, blow-outs are scary, but I have found that meal time and craft time can be so much worse!

Meal Time: Life’s Messiest Moments

messiest-moments-wm

My lovely, little man, has started attempting to self feed and I swear I need to get myself a lab coat to wear when he is eating!!  Like seriously… Oh. My. God.  Food gets everywhere, but at least he is having a good time and is learning while he does it.  As you can see he does manage to get food into his mouth, but a majority of the food that is in his bowl ends up all over the kitchen.  Believe me when I say you did not want to see the floor!! There were green beans and cereal EVERYWHERE.  I could not move without stepping on some of his food.

One thing I can say is that I am thankful to have Dreft in my life because without Dreft I would never be able to get his clothes and bibs clean after one of these messy moments in our life.  Dreft manages to clean his clothes and leave them smelling great even after a messy diaper or old spoiled food is crusted on his clothing.  I have followed Dr. Dyan Hes’ advice and am well stocked up on bibs because I know they need to be utilized for more than just meal time.  In one day Raiden can easily go through four bibs due to meal time and eating teething crackers.  I use them because I find them to be a bit easier to clean a couple bibs than to clean multiple outfits a day.

Cleaning up Life’s Messiest Moments!

Even though life can get messy we have learned that one of the best things about getting messy is clean up time.  While much of clean up time can be annoying (like washing the floor and his highchair), it also means bath time which is a fun little treat for my man.  He (finally) loves bath time.  It may have taken six months, but Raiden loves when we get down and play in the bath tub!  I have always thought that bath time is a great way to embrace Raiden’s messy side and was pleased to see that Dr. Dyan Hes has included bath time as being one of her “messy baby” tips.  She says that it is a great way to splash and have fun while cleaning up from baby’s messes.

messiest-moments-bath-time-wm

Cleaning up Raiden is now a fun exploration and no longer a chore.  I used to dread bath time because it meant a bright red infant screaming at the top of his lungs.  I also used to dread the stains that come from a baby’s daily life.  I will admit that when the weather was nice I used to leave him in just a diaper.  I claimed I did it because it was easier, but that isn’t the truth.  I was honestly terrified of the messes that my son would make in his clothes.  It didn’t matter if they were new or second-hand clothes, I was still terrified of cleaning those messes up.  I made the change to Dreft and was able to let out a sigh of relief.

Their products are formulated to be hypoallergenic, gentle on skin, tough on stains, and with a fresh baby scent that everyone knows and they work REALLY well.  I love that I can add a scent booster to the wash because sometimes even after one wash those funky baby smells just don’t go away.

dreft-family-messiest-moments

I am thankful for their detergent because most of the time I do not need to treat my little man’s clothes with a concoction of stain removers.  They boast that Dreft removes 99% of stains and I would have to agree with this sentiment.  Right now you can be proud of your messiest moments because Dreft is hosting a fun little contest.

When my son was little I remember one day I was in the kitchen preparing lunch for him. He mustve been between 2 and 3. I was only out of the room a few minutes and left him coloring and watching a Disney video. When I walked back into the room he had found a rubber stamper that is self inking and stamped it all over his face, his body and his clothing. I have the picture somewhere. That had to be the messiest and funniest moment.

I had baked some cupcakes for dessert and I left them on the kitchen table not thinking my. 2 year old daughter would wait until I left the room for 1 minute. Climb the chair got a cupcake to eat, which the icing ended up all over her face, hair and clothes. I forgot to mention she went into her bedroom to do this.

I’ve had some pretty interesting messy moments one includes my son and a brand new bottle of Wen ….but the absolute messiest moment was one day my kids were painting while I was cleaning. They loved to paint it would keep them busy for hours…my daughter was about 11 and sons were 7 and 1….so my daughter is a little trouble maker she loved to do things to her brothers…never really bad just ….messy and silly….she calls me in the kitchen …and said she had a surprise for me,I go in and my boys were completely covered in blue paint from head to toe! And so was she…she said they were avatars…the boys were rolling around on my white kitchen floor…they touched walls …getting them to the bathroom was unspeakable! My kitchen ,hallway, rug,,,bathtub,,,,bathroom floor, walls …everything on half my house was blue!!! Even the water in tub was blue…it took about 4 baths to clean them..and hours to clean the house!! Had to shampoo the carpets!! It was hilarious …and messy!! I don’t think I ever laughed so hard..they tell me mommy u always say the bigger the mess we make means the more fun we had! U can’t get mad at us for having fun! And they’re right I just couldn’t get mad haha oh boy that was something!!

When of my messiest moments was when my daughter was two. We were having a Fourth of July celebration at my parents’ house. All the women were in the kitchen cleaning up from dinner. Since I was helping, I took my eyes off my daughter for a few minutes. When I checked on her, she had pulled up a chair to the dessert table. She had a huge serving spoon in her hand and was eating chocolate pudding from a big bowl. She was covered…face and clothes…in chocolate pudding. It did make for some fun photos though.

One of my life’s messiest moments happened most recently. I sometimes forget that kids are sponges and watch every single thing you do. I was spot cleaning our living room rug with some vinegar and baking soda. After applying the products, I set them on the kitchen counter (way too close to the edge I now realize). I went to the bathroom and came back to finish scrubbing the spot only to find my 4 year old and 20 month old covered in baking soda (or snow as my 4 year old called it). It was EVERYWHERE.. the rug, the couches and even the dog caught a bit of it. I said a little prayer and after about 30 minutes, things were clean again. I have learned to make sure things are WAY out of reach of the Little’s!

One of our messiest moments was when my little two found a huge container of baby powder, and Vaseline. I was laying down with a migraine, and they were very quiet. FInally, I got up, and there was powder everywhere! They had painted each other with Vaseline , and their hair was sticking up in spikes. All the powder was all over them as well. It took forever to clean the room, and to get the Vaseline out of their hair!

Oh my goodness…at first I thought it was great…he didnt want to dig in to much…but then…oh boy…he really dug in! It was all over…I had such a hard time getting it out of everything! He even had some royal blue streaks in his hair for the next week! 🙂 Messy…but precious!

My daughter formally hit the terrible twos about six months early! This kid was into any and everything. The messiest moment tho came one Saturday morning. I worked weekdays and although I was awake I had chosen to lay in bed and watch TV. I had no idea that she had shimmied down the side of her bed and made her way to the kitchen. There were several items she could have chosen. Flour, sugar and even cooking oil. But noooo, she chose Hershey’s chocolate syrup! She attempted to put it in a cup and when that failed she realized how much fun it would be just to squirt it in the floor. Again, I am awake only two rooms away and she was so quiet I did not hear her. I have no idea how long she “played” but by the time she got tired and was ready to move onto something else she had it in her hair, in her ears, in her belly button and even in her diaper. It was bad enough that I now had this outrageous mess but at that time we were plagued with “sugar” ants. By the time I got her in the tub and cleaned up the ants had shown up for the spectacle. Needless to say, Hershey’s syrup was kept in a higher cabinet after that! dmatthews38751@yahoo.com

Well my kids are big now and have kids of their own. So thinking back I think that the messiest was when I was staying with my sister. She had twins that were 3 and I had a 2 year old at the time. They all got up early and did not wake anyone else in the house, when we got up they were making a cake in the middle of the kitchen! They had sugar flour eggs and even milk~that was quite the mess and I still remember it after all these years..LOL

One of life’s messiest moments happened at dinner time when my little girl decided to take a hand full of mashed potatoes off of her dinner plate and rubbed it into her hair. She laughed and laughed. She thought that was so funny because I opened my mouth really wide and said, what are you doing? I will never forget that night. It took so long to get those mashed potatoes out of her pretty hair.

The worst mess moment for me was when my daughter was just a few days old. We realized quickly that the formula didn’t agree with her. I got a horrible surprise one morning going into her room when there was just as much brown as there was baby. I went and grabbed another blanket and wrapped her up and immediately ran a bath. Got her cleaned up and then ran everything in the laundry. It was worse when it happened again when she was about 2 and we had to learn other foods that wouldn’t agree with her. But by then everything is a toy and the wall behind the crib got in on the fun. I do not miss those days….

We had a messy evening a few years ago. My youngest grandson loves eating spaghetti and we have it quite often. He is the messiest spaghetti eater even though he has a fork to use, he still somehow manages to use his hands and gets sauce all over the place. Half of it ends up dribbled down his shirt and onto the floor. Well our dog loves when that happens so she can lick it all up. Our elderly dog had an upset stomach that day and I guess ate too much off the floor because she ended up puking a huge pile underneath my grandson’s feet when he was still sitting at the table. It was such a pain to clean up and reach up under the table.

My messy moment was when my daughter had spaghetti for the first time. Sure it was cute, but she had spaghetti noodles and sauce everywhere. In her hair, on her nice clean clothes and yes even in her diaper. That was a while ago and I don’t think I got all the stains out of her clothes. I learned from that experience. She never ate spaghetti in her clothes again. She wore a nice big bib and a diaper after that.

Picture a dozen eggs and 5 pounds of flour dripping over their little heads, in their eye lashes, up their noses….liberally dusted with flour. They also dyed the puppy purple and torquoise with paste icing color. Fun times. My messiest moment happened when my son was 5 months old. I had just got through washing my hair and he was ready for a bottle. I fed him and he seemed fine for a little bit, then starting getting fussy. I was trying to make him laugh so I put over my head and made airplane noises. The third time I lifted him – he threw up in my long wet hair. When it happened I just froze, then I brought him down to sit on my lap. He had a big smile on his face. I’m sure he felt a lot better after that – but, me, not so much. I had throw-up all in my wet hair, on my shirt and pants. It took me forever to clean it out of my hair. That is one moment I’ll never forget.

She had so much fun spreading it all over her high chair, clothes, face, me etc. What I didn’t realize was that once the spinach soup dried it was SUPER hard to get off! I have no idea why it was so hard to get off but it took a lot of scrubbing to make things and her presentable again. I swear I found spinach soup on her for her next two baths!

I turned my back for just a minute—isn’t that how these things happen?—and the water color paints from the craft table, the cookies from the counter, and the juice on the side all ended up on the table…the floor…the counter…the kids…the cat. We moved on from that house years ago, but I’ll bet anyone remodeling even now will find bright purple and green water color smashed cookie pieces in the nooks and crannies. Luckily, kids are easier to clean 🙂

You asked for the details! 😛 My son (now 6 months old) was in his jumparoo, when I looked down at his feet and basically he was painting the hardwood floor with his poop! 😛 nice, huh? It was a mess needless to say… straight into the tub and lots and lots of lysol on the floor! ha!

One of our messiest moments was my youngest stepson. He was 4 and eating spaghetti for lunch before we went to the zoo. By the time he was done, it was all over him… even in his hair. My husband was cleaning him up and asked him “How on earth did you get spaghetti in your hair?!” The kid threw his arms up in the air and said “It’s Magic!!” We all laughed so hard!

it was funny but messy at the same time.

One of the messiest moments is when the little one I watch was in his high chair eating spaghetti for lunch. I went to use the restroom and when I reappeared, he had smeared the spaghetti on my white walls, in his hair and all over his clothing then threw the bowl of spahetti at the cupboard doors. Ugh, it was such a mess.

One of my messiest moments was when my oldest daughter tried spaghetti for the first time. I put some in her bowl and she grabbed a handful and shoved it in her mouth. When she realized that she really liked it, she started eating it like crazy. I turned around to get a wet towel and turned back (20 seconds later) to find her with the bowl over her face and her licking it out! Spaghetti was in her hair, face, floor, everywhere!

One of my nephew’s messiest moments was trying to make mudpies in the yard. Dirt under tiny nails is hard to get out.

One of my son’s messiest moments was when we gave him a few bites of curry at a Thai restaurant. He was about five months old and wearing a cloth diaper and thank goodness we were home right afterwards. I had to shampoo the carpet.

She snuck a chocolate bunny from her Easter basket that was on a table (she was a crafty one!), went behind a chair and came out covered in melted chocolate from head to toe. Getting messy is a big part of her life.

The most recent messiest moment we’ve had was when we were taking care of our newborn nephew! All of our kids and our other nieces are older so there hasn’t been any diaper changing in a while. Lol well when it was time for a diaper change I accidentally let go of his foot and it fell right in his dirty diaper, oh no!! And I guess I did not move fast enough because he started to pee all over lol let’s just say the diaper changing get skill were rusty lol it was a big mess

My messiest moment is when my grandsons were out digging in the yard for dinosaur bones. My one grandson lives with me and my daughter. I watch my other three grandsons a couple days a week. I went in the house and was getting them drinks and a snack when I came out they had poured some of the pool water over the dirt they were digging in. Needless to say they were one big muddy mess. They thought I would get mad when I saw them but I couldn’t help but laugh. I got the hose out and they got a shower.

My kids have made such messes with spaghetti that one time I pulled a few pieces of pasta from the ceiling. Now we strip down to underwear with a sheet under the children’s chairs. That doesn’t help the ceiling but the rest is fairly easy clean up.

Our three year old grandson made quite a good mess a couple of years ago when it was his first birthday. He had a chocolate cake with ice cream so you can just about imagine the big mess that all made.
