We all know that your dog is not just a pet; your dog is a member of your family because of this you should be treating your sweet dog like you would anyone else in your family. If you and your family have been living a natural life then you should want your dog to live a natural life as well. If you implement these five basic ways to help your dog live a natural life you will see a noticeable difference in your dog’s behavior and over all happiness with their life.
1. Regular Exercise
Helping your dog live a natural life starts really simple. Getting regular exercise is important for people and is just as important for dogs. They need to stay fit, get exercise, and burn some energy and calories. Regular exercise can come in many forms and all dogs have different activities that they prefer doing as a form of exercise. My pup Luna loves to run and play Frisbee. She might look hilarious running with a big Frisbee in her mouth as it hits the ground more than once on her run back to you, but none the less it is one of her favorite activities. Finding the perfect activity for your dog is trial and error. Keep trying new activities until you find that one activity that your dog begs you to do with them.
2. Doggy Play Dates
The second great thing to do to help your dog live a natural life is to make doggy play dates. If you only have one dog you will really want to set up doggy play dates because again dog’s are like people – they need friends, too. You know that anxious, antsy feeling that you start to get when you get cooped up at home and don’t have the time to spend with your friends? Your dog gets that feeling, too. You might notice your dog getting anxious when he doesn’t get to interact with other dogs and regular activities just aren’t cutting it. This is when you will want to set up a doggy play date. If you don’t have any family or friends with dogs then you can always hunt down a local dog park. At the dog park you should be able to find some pups that will get along with your furry friend.
3. AvoDerm® Natural Revolving Menu
You may recall that I wrote about AvoDerm’s Natural Revolving Menu a couple of months ago. If you switch your pup to their revolving menu you will be able to help your dog live a natural life by providing them with a diet that is full of natural ingredients. The difference with the AvoDerm® Natural Revolving Menu and other natural dog foods on the market is the fact that their food is a rotational diet. This means that instead of always feeding your dog the same food (you wouldn’t feed your child the same food every day) you vary proteins in your dog’s diet without the risk of food sensitivities or an upset stomach due to the fact that all of the dog foods in the Revolving Menu line have consistent protein and starch levels. Even though I don’t have a small dog I find it awesome that they have small dog formulas as well as large dog formulas. If you want to join in on the conversation about AvoDerm® Natural Revolving Menu just follow them on Twitter and join in on all the fun.
4. Clean Your Dog’s Teeth
Cleaning your dog’s teeth is just as important as brushing yours or getting your children to brush their teeth. Dog’s in the wild naturally clean their teeth and gums by tearing meat off of the bone when they are eating. When we domesticated them they lost this piece of their lives. It is up to you to help them clean their teeth. There are tons of products on the market that boast how they help clean your dog’s teeth, but there are still natural ways to do it. You can purchase items like deer antlers and raw meat bones and the like. In addition to that you can brush your dog’s teeth or get them professionally cleaned at a veterinary office.
5. Fresh Air and Clean Environment
Finally make sure your pup gets plenty of fresh air and lives in a clean environment. These are two basic principles of living a natural life for anyone. Having a clean environment both indoors and outdoors is beneficial to your dog. Indoors having a clean environment can help to prevent your pup from getting fleas, mites, or parasites while having a clean environment outdoors is even more important. You cannot control everything outdoors, but cleaning up after your dog as well as having a chemical free lawn and plants is pertinent to your dogs health. By doing both of these things you eliminate a risk for bad chemicals being ingested by your dog. Dog’s eat plants and grass often as a way of self medicating and help them to keep their gut healthy.
Do you already implement any of these 5 ways to help your dog live a natural life?
