I was given a free product from Love Cooking Co. for my honest review. This post may also contain affiliate links.
The holidays are around the corner and because of that I was stoked to be given the opportunity to review a product from Love Cooking Co. to help me making my holiday baking that much easier. I also felt like their products would make for a great item on my Holiday Gift Guide this year. Their products are perfect for the baker in your family. Now, they gave me the option of selecting what I would like to review and I chose the Mrs. Fields Half N Half™ Cupcake Pan. I was pretty excited to sample this product because I am one of those people who loves tasting two flavors at once. I am also a bit of a perfectionist and these looked like they would make some really pretty half and half cupcakes.
Love Cooking Co Mrs. Fields Half N Half™ Cupcake Pan Review
I was really excited to get this product in the mail and I could not wait to try it out. We were getting ready for a birthday party of my brother in law and his son so I thought it would be the perfect time to try out this neat little cupcake pan. It looked easy enough and the directions were super simple as well. I got to whipping the cupcake batter up for both the vanilla and chocolate cupcake and eagerly told my sister in law what I was doing while she played with her two little ones.
Everything was going great until I put the cupcake liners in the pan. I noticed that with the liners in the pan the plastic divider did not sit flush with the bottom of the pan anymore. I tried to make the liners as flush with the bottom as possible, but still I was having no luck. I finally shrugged it off and figured it would be okay the way that it was. I took a spoon and scooped out the batter. I was planning on doing all of the vanilla and then all of the chocolate, but I soon realized this was not going to happen. As soon as I poured in the vanilla I saw it dribble underneath the divider.
I began to get frustrated because the obsessive side of me began to come out and I was very unhappy. I tried to hold the plastic down at each cup and get the batter to stay on only one side, but no matter what I did it would still leak to the other side. You can tell that some of them even have mistakes on top because I was getting so flustered that I was no longer attempting to make them perfect. Maybe it was the batter that I used that made them dribble under the plastic. I would think that a muffin batter would be much thicker and be less prone to dribbling under the divider.
My advice to you is to always use a thick batter that does not spread much so that your cupcakes or muffins come out perfect. I do still plan on trying to make some holiday spice and fruit muffins with this Mrs. Fields Half N Half™ Cupcake Pan. I have a taste for some fun all spice muffins mixed with either cranberry or blueberry muffins. I think they would have a very interesting flavor that I couldn’t get else where. I also would mention that you need to make sure that you pull the plastic piece out slowly and evenly so that you do not get any spills or leaks.
The Final Product
I will admit due to my frustrations I only made a dozen cupcakes with the divider. If I was not having so many issues with getting the batter to rest nicely in the pan I would have continued to make the double flavored cupcakes. Due to the fact that I made two full batches of batter I still had another 24 cupcakes to bake after these were complete. I then took the time to frost them with buttercream frosting and set them up nicely on my mother in laws crystal that she breaks out for all family gatherings.
I managed to fit the dozen Half N Half Cupcakes on the bottom tier of the gorgeous tiered crystal centerpiece for the birthday party. I then began setting up the vanilla and chocolate cupcakes on the top two tiers only to learn that I still needed more room for the final tray of cupcakes that I was about to slather with the delicious butter cream frosting. These went on another crystal piece that is really meant to hold a pie. Everyone loved the end results because it all looked gorgeous and laid out nicely. When people went to sample to cupcakes I mentioned which were which and quickly realized that even though the Half N Half Cupcakes weren’t perfect they were a huge hit.
