Keeping Children Safe while Shopping using Shopping Cart Covers

I never thought I would be one of those over protective or over bearing moms, but I am finding that as I get closer and closer to my precious little boy being born I am getting to be even more over protective than ever.  Due to the fact that car seats and so gosh darn heavy I know I will not be able to bring one with me into the store I knew I would need to come up with a different way to safely maneuver through the store and not have to worry about my little one hurting himself.  That is why I was rather pleased when Balboa Baby offered me one of their shopping cart covers to review for my Baby Shower Gift Guide.  Now, many moms might not think that these are necessary, but I will tell you why I feel that a shopping cart cover is a necessity.

A shopping cart cover is important because it gives moms and dads a safe place to put their child in the shopping cart.  Many parents just leave their little ones in the car seat and place that in the cart, but there are two different reasons why you wouldn’t want to do this.  First of all placing the car seat in the front of the shopping cart is very dangerous.  You can make the cart top heavy and it could easily topple the cart over.  I have also seen no safe way to lock the car seat into the cart so that it is stable.  Your only other option is to place the car seat in the basket of the cart and by doing this you limit what you can place in the cart while shopping.  If you are grocery shopping this can mean that you need to push two separate carts just so that you can get all of the food and household supplies that you need.

If you are like me then you are not coordinated enough to push/pull two carts at the same time.  It takes a lot to control one shopping cart, but if I had to maneuver through the store with two I would be royally screwed.   Being able to safely place my child in the front of the cart makes me feel so much more at ease because I can manage to push one cart while constantly keeping my eyes on my little one to make sure that he is safe and sound in the seat while being protected by the soft material.  If you are germaphobic or are worried about your child getting ill from germs in the store putting a clean cover over the dirty seat and handle can help keep the germs away from your little one.

We have a little boy due in March and babies love to place everything in their mouths, clean and not-so clean. :/ A cart cover would help to protect my little one from himself and unwanted contact with germs.

I would want one because carts are pretty gross, and I know they can cause pinches and scratches. Having a cart cover would make it a lot safer for my baby!

I didn’t think of it much before going shopping the past couple of times. You’ll sometimes see the cleaning wipes. Didn’t think I’d be one to use those. But now I have. And when I did it the first time, I noticed my baby chewing on it. I was like well, it’s a little cleaner. Kind of wish I had a cover but who knows if I would remember to bring it. And before, I was that mom who put the carseat in the seat part of the cart. I’ll admit, had a couple scary moments.

These are awesome! I wished they had this when my kids were little. Shopping carts are always a bit sketchy and germy. My sister-in-law is pregnant and due it July — this would make a GREAT gift for her!
