I often dream of being a parent in a different era.  I love my technology, but it poses so many issues with children that I feel like I need to be ahead of the game and I need to get some parental controls in place so that when my son does start using technology he won’t use it too much or too often so that he isn’t living behind a screen.  I feel like too many people live most of their lives behind a screen whether it be a TV, computer, or cellphone.  That issue is what drives me to ensure that my son does not spend too much of his life behind a screen.

In my journey to find the perfect solution to this problem I came across CUJO.  CUJO is a Smart Internet Firewall that you can manage on through an app on your phone.  The reason that I wanted to own a CUJO was because there are so many devices in my home that have internet access, but don’t have a security feature on them.  You might not even think about it, but I want to pose a question to you.

Do you keep anti-virus programs on all of your computers?

I bet your answer was yes.  So, if you do keep it on your computers then why don’t you have it for all of your devices?  This means that your tablets, TVs, and even baby monitors are open gateways that can easily be hacked by hackers.  It is becoming more and more common for hackers to go after these other devices because it is so much easier to gain access to them.  I will admit that I love my WiFi enabled baby monitors, but it is also terrifying to think that some stranger could have easily hacked in and could be watching my child sleep.

Why do I love CUJO? The Parental Controls, of course!

I personally love CUJO because I know that it is protecting my home and keeping my family safe.   My biggest love right now is the fact that it is helping to keep my baby monitor feed secure so that no one is able to hack in and be able to watch what my family is doing in our house.  I am thankful that we currently only have the baby monitor in the nursery and that is only used for nap time and bedtime, but still I would worry that someone might be watching my son sleep and that just isn’t cool with me.

I also love CUJO because I am able to already set up Parental Controls on devices even though I don’t really give my son any access to them as of yet.  He is only 18 months old, but I figure it’s better to start early rather than later.  I was able to create user profiles for everyone in our household and if I chose to I was able to set up parental controls for them.  I currently only set up parental controls for my son’s profile.  I was able to set up time limits so that my son will not be able to stay plugged in for really long periods of time and while I was at it I set up an internet filter for him as well.  I wanted to make sure that when he does gain access to these devices that everything is already put in place to keep him safe.
