DIY Glowing Latern

July 27, 2020 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Things have been a little crazy around here since Covid-19 hit, just like they probably are in your home and that has led to us getting creative and our children’s therapists getting just as creative. This past week we made DIY glowing lanterns with my preschooler’s recreational therapist, Juanakee.

It was a fun project for us because my little guy had to step out of his comfort zone and risk getting a little messy while making some extra fun. It’s been such a hit that I decided to recreate this impromptu project on here so that you might be able to get a little joy from it all like we have.

What you’ll need:

  • Jar (preferably plastic)
  • Large glow sticks
  • Glitter
  • Sequins or foil stars
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun & glue(optional)

Let’s get started!

1. Start by opening your glow stick packages. Have your child open up the jar and have them help you crack the glow sticks to activate them. You will want to make sure it’s very broken up before cutting one end off.

After cutting the end off have your child shake the contents of the tube into the jar. Do this with all of your glow sticks.

2. Add glitter. Now you will want to add in glitter to the jar. I suggest silver or white as they won’t darken the jar up. Add glitter little by little until you like how it looks.

3. Screw on the lid. Once the kids is on have your child shake it up until it’s completely covered in the glow in the dark ink and glitter.

4. Turn off all the lights. See the magic at work!

5. Glue on lid. (Optional) If you are afraid of your kid getting into the jar then glue the lid shut. This will make it so you can’t add more glow stick ink when it stops glowing so I’d suggest not glueing on the lid.

#CampWarnerBros – Week 5 – DIY Teen Titans Character Banks

July 22, 2020 by Ashley Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post for Camp Warner Bros featuring Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans and a fun DIY Bank activity.

This week is another fun one for us. We love Teen Titans and I love sharing my love for it with my son. He helped me make popcorn to watch the movie together because he was so excited when I told him that we were going to watch Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans.

The movie was a huge hit and I just couldn’t hold back the smiles and my laughter because my little guy is at that age where he gets really into the movies and he will jump up and act out the scenes. It was just so cute watching him try to jump and kick like some of the characters.

Teen Titans DIY Character Banks

I don’t know if your children are like my son, but he just loves collecting coins. He currently has one full bank and has confiscated my Wonder Woman bank as his own. (Yes I know we should cash in all the coins, but he really doesn’t want me to empty the banks.) Since he loves banks I knew he would be excited to make one of his own.

I am posting the directions below You can click the link here to get the full Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans Character Banks PDF file.

We used cheap spray paint from Menards (getting an 11% rebate for the purchase) and chose to use Modge Podge in the spray can instead of the paste version. I found the spray adhesive to be much easier to apply to the jar. I also had my husband cut the hole in the lid because I was worried I would cut myself while doing it.

Allergy Friendly Valentine’s Day Treats and Cards For Kids

February 9, 2019 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Allergy Friendly Valentine's Day Treats & Cards

I’ve always been aware of allergies, but I only ever avoided tree nuts because my cousin is allergic to them so they were naturally avoided around him. However, now that my son is dairy-free and was gluten-free for a short time I am now so much more aware of the ingredients in the foods we eat and hand out. So, I went on a venture to find a way to have an allergy friendly Valentine’s Day with my son.

I still love my chocolate, but realize that a lot more people can’t have it than I ever thought was possible. My son hasn’t entered school yet, but will be in the next couple months and that has me thinking about holidays at school. It can be hard to monitor kids and make sure they aren’t getting their hands on foods they shouldn’t be eating.

Welch's Fruit Snacks Valentine's Day Snack Pouches

Valentine’s Day Snack Cards

If you and your child want to bring in Valentine’s Day Cards to pass out that are also snacks then you might want to consider Welch’s Fruit Snacks pouches. This Valentine’s Day they have boxes that contain 28 pouches filled with heart-shaped emoji fruit snacks that can be filled out with names as Valentine’s for your child’s classmates.

Welch’s Fruit Snacks are fat free, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and contain no preservatives. This makes them a win-win for allergy conscious individuals. I love that they are something that I can share with my son without fear of it causing him any health issues.

Valentine’s Day Non-Snack Card Options

If you would rather find a cute Valentine’s Day card that doesn’t have food with it to hand out to the children in your child’s class then I would recommend you checking out these cute Coloring Crayon Valentine’s Day Cards that can be made using Cricut’s Design Space.

Valentine Crayon Box Favor

The Valentine Crayon Box Favor is not a design included in Design Space Access, but it is a super cute idea for a great little Valentine’s Day card to send to school with your little one. This design makes a simple crayon box big enough for you to fit 8 different colored crayons. You could easily buy crayons in bulk online, in a teacher’s store, or just make a trip to the Dollar Store to get some cheap crayons. This box is easily colored by the children, or could be left blank for their classmates to color when they get their little Valentine’s Day gift.

Valentine Coloring Card

This Valentine Coloring Card is also a great option for the kids this year. These cards only require two crayons and can be a great way to help let your child help put together the cards for their classmates. While you do the work making these cards on Cricut Design Space your child can pick out the crayons that go with each Valentine.

These cards are easily customized in Design Space which means that if you want to include different pictures for the kids to color you can easily substitute them in before making them for your child’s class. This particular design is one that is available for free if you have a Design Space Access subscription.

Will you be using any of these allergy friendly Valentine’s Day ideas?

Holiday Gift Guide for the Little Artist 2018 Edition

November 23, 2018 by Ashley Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post and these opinions and gift suggestions are all my own.

Holiday Gift Guide for the Little Artist 2018 Edition

Rocketbook

The Rocketbook is a great present idea for an artist in your life. This notebook was first seen on Shark Tank and has become a legend by still being successful without help from Shark Tank. It works by allowing you to draw, take notes, and so much more. Once you can finished your page you select the destination at the bottom of the page. Once this is all done you open up the phone app and scan the pages onto the cloud. This allows you to still take physical notes and make physical drawings while being able to easily digitize it. Another great feature is that if you write with the pen that it comes with you can erase the content and start again. If you need it last minute then find it on Amazon.

Blu Notebook

The Blu Notebook is any drafters dream notebook. If you are making blueprints on a regular basis or are just making up drafts for DIY projects then this notebook could be perfect for you. It features blue pages with a light blue grid to aid in keeping your projects nice and neat. It’s lay flat design is also beneficial for those who want to utilize the entire page and of course the pages are perforated for easy removal when you are finished with your project. Each notebook comes with a white Gelly Roll pen to make your projects pop on the page. While I don’t have an architect in the family I do have many men in my life who are constantly building new pieces of furniture or crafts that would love to get this notebook as a gift this year. You can find this for purchase on Amazon this Holiday season.

Buddah Board

Buddha Board is inspired by the Zen idea of living in the moment.  You simply paint on the surface with water and your creation will come to life in bold design.  Then, as the water slowly evaporates, your art will magically disappear leaving you with a clean slate and a clear mind, ready to create a whole new masterpiece. This makes this gift perfect for your friend who likes to meditate, draw, or just relax while also giving them an eco-friendly gift that can be reused for years. I am already dreaming of all of the fun art that can be made. If you create a masterpiece that you are afraid of losing don’t fret because you can just snap a photo and still have it with you forever. These boards can be found on Amazon as well this Holiday season.

Ellie Claire Art Journals

Ellie Claire Art Journals make for a great gift for your religious artsy friends. I know that I have quite a few family members and friends who would love to get their hands on one of these stunning journals this year. I could go on for days about how there is a special journal in the collection for everyone, but that would be silly because I already did that HERE. Feel free to check out my detailed review on these stunning journals. You can of course find them on Amazon for purchase.

Coloring in the Holidays This Year With Canvas on Demand

December 15, 2017 by Ashley Leave a Comment

This post is sponsored by Canvas on Demand.

Every year I love getting at least one canvas print of one of our holiday pictures for someone in my family. I just love spreading the joy and I love canvas prints. They feel so much more real and artsy to me that a simple photograph.

This year I opted for getting one for myself thanks to Canvas on Demand. In the past I have gifted all of my canvas prints out and didn’t have any left for myself. However this year I got a picture of our little family from Portrait Innovations that I fell in love with and had to have printed for me to hang on the wall. Thankfully Canvas on Demand was able to help me out this year. They were nice enough to provide me with a Canvas Wrap print to review as well as one of there Coloring Canvases to review.

My Canvas Wrap turned out to be absolutely perfect! The picture I chose had a white background so the wrap feature didn’t really make a difference for this particular image, but I love the results. My canvas is crisp and I am not able to find any flaws in the picture. To me this is an absolute win. We now have a beautiful family canvas in our living room.

Now, I think my hubby was more excited for his early Christmas present, the coloring canvas. He is crazy artistic and I knew he would fall in love with the guitar coloring canvas that I chose for him. He loves playing guitar and he loves painting his guitars so I thought he would love to color in a picture of a guitar.

I can tell you that I was indeed correct because any moment of free time my hubby has, has been spent at the table working on his beloved guitar canvas. He is having so much fun choosing what colors to use and see it transform before our eyes. He is hoping to have it completed before the new year.

One thing I will say about choosing a coloring canvas is the fact that I loved that each one was rated by difficulty so if you wanted an easier or more difficult canvas to color you could easily find the right difficulty for you or the person you want to gift it to.

Will you be buying a canvas from Canvas on Demand this year?
