Have You Heard of a Revolving Diet for Your Pets? #AvoDermNatural

September 28, 2015 by Ashley 1 Comment

This post is sponsored by Avoderm and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Avoderm Rotational Menu but Parsimonious Pash only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Avoderm is not responsible for the content of this article.

AvoDerm Revolving Menu

Have you ever heard of the term AvoDerm Revolving Menu in regards to your pets diet?  I honestly had not until the other day.  I had always been told to keep my pets diets the same and to not change up their pet food because it could cause digestive problems.  Avoderm® has changed that concept for me.  Their logic makes a lot of sense to me.  You might wonder why this concept makes a whole lot of sense to me.  Let me explain what Avoderm® is all about.

Their concept is that if you vary the proteins that your pet eats just like you vary the proteins that you eat on a regular basis you could aid in minimizing food sensitivities that your pet may get through changing up what they have to digest on a regular basis.  They pride themselves on offering premium pet foods that contain the protein as the first ingredient and are all gluten free as well as grain free.  This means that they do not add potatoes or fillers to their food.  Instead it is food that is healthy for your pet.  Food that you would pride yourself on feeding your pet, especially if you are one of those people who treats their pet like they would treat their child.

AvoDerm Revolving Menu

As I do more and more research about pet food allergies I have come to wonder if Hailey, a dog that my family had for many years, may have had food allergies and we just may not have realized it.  I wonder this because my parents had to regularly give her Benadryl to stop her from itching herself raw.  It wasn’t just her though; My dog Kratos had similar issues that caused many problems over the years and it really makes me wonder now, but that is in the past.  All I can do now is hope that I help my dogs out now and in the future by feeding them food that is healthy for them.

While I don’t like to eat avocados I do realize that they are a SuperFood that is great for people as well as animals due to all of the nutrients that they are jam-packed in.  My growing child will be fed avocados when he or she is old enough for solid foods and putting that into consideration makes me believe that having avocados in my pets food would benefit them as well.  I have not known many if any pet foods to contain such an ingredient, but Avoderm® does contain avocados. They did a study and found that in a six-week trial of the food will show you results with a healthier, shinier, smoother skin and coat.

I am going to wrap this up because I think I have sold you on how amazing this food is and I think you will run off and research this AvoDerm Revolving Menu that is offered for your pet.  As I wrap this up I want to let you know that it is made in the USA specifically in California with California avocados and high quality proteins.

Thanksgiving is over and many people are starting to suffer from the winter blues.  No one likes falling into them so why don’t we find a creative way in breaking out of those blues.  If you are like me and feeling like some creative inspiration then keep on reading because Madison Reed has really helped us out this time with these great five DIY spa treatments for your hair!

Sneaking in a spa getaway before the holidays is easier than you think. Madison Reed wants you to know about these 5 swanky spa treatments for your hair. The best part? These deliciously healthy hair solutions can be found in your own kitchen!

diy spa hair treatments

1. Beer is the Silver Bullet for Fine, Limp Hair

Believe it or not, beer is full of protein, which enhances shine, strength, and moisture.

HOW: Just open up a can or bottle and let it sit open for a couple hours to release the carbonation. After you shampoo, gently massage the beer into your hair, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and then rinse. You can also put the beer in a spray bottle and spritz onto dry hair. The protein residue from the brew will help strengthen your hair.

2. Honey is The Bee’s Knees for Split Ends

Don’t worry, we’re not leading you into a sticky situation, you can safely put honey on your hair! In fact, it can be a miracle worker for damaged hair. Honey is antibacterial, contains vitamins and minerals, and is a humectant, which means that it attracts moisture to improve dry hair.

HOW: Using half a cup of honey, saturate your hair. Put on a shower cap to capture natural heat and put your feet up for half an hour (you deserve it). Rinse out the honey to reveal glowing soft, silky hair. This treatment will help reduce split ends and fly aways.

3. Baking Soda Gets a Rise Out of Your Hair

Time to apply our science class know-how to hair care! Baking soda is an alkaline base (the other end of the spectrum from acids). This is important for hair because excess oils and styling products get trapped in the cuticle of your hair, making it feel greasy and flat. Use baking soda to lift out those unwanted oils and product build up.

HOW: Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with small amounts of water until it forms a thick paste. Work this paste into your hair and let it sit for ten minutes before rinsing. Your hair will gain volume and feel bouncy and clean!

4. Avocado to Bring Down the Frizz

The oils in avocados are very similar to the natural oils in our skin. Combined with its proteins and nutrients, this is one hair-enriching fruit! Use as a smoothing balm to tame frizz and fly aways. In winter months, it can also reduce that annoying seasonal static.

HOW: Mash half an avocado until smooth. Massage into damp hair and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing. Your hair will be deeply conditioned. Bonus: if you have curls, this treatment will make them soft and defined.

5. Let the Light in with Yogurt

Yogurt does wonders for dull, lifeless hair. It contains lactic acid, which gently cleans off the environmental film that can build up on our hair, and milk fat, which adds incredible shine.

HOW: Massage a half cup of plain yogurt into damp hair. Put on a shower cap to capture natural heat. After 20 minutes, rinse your hair. Your hair will look like it’s glowing!

Treat yourself to one of these kitchen spa treatments once a week on rotation to relax and get healthy, gorgeous hair. Follow up with Madison Reed Radiant Color Kit that is healthier for your hair for a full beauty routine that leaves you feeling great, inside and out!

Tuna Squish Review and Tuna Salad Recipe

September 20, 2014 by Ashley 1 Comment

Tuna

I will admit right here and now that I love, love, love Tuna.  Honestly, I love fish in general, but I eat a lot of canned Tuna Fish.  I just love the taste and smell of it.  I hated it when I was younger, but as I grew older I realized I was missing something amazing.  (My cats may have helped me realize this fact, but I will not give them all of the credit.)

One of my favorite things to make is Tuna Fish Salad and the hardest thing to do is to get all of that Tuna juice out of the can.  If I leave it in then the Tuna Salad is too thin and won’t hold together in the sandwich well enough to stay on my toast.  I know everyone makes their Tuna Salad a little differently so, if you keep reading you will be lucky enough to find out the recipe that I have perfected over the years.

In the mean time, let me tell you all about the Tuna Squish product that I was given to review.  You might laugh at the name of the product, but I find it to be one of my favorite tools in the kitchen.  If you are like me and you have dexterity and strength issues with your hands then you will understand where I am coming from.  It can be very hard to get my hands to do what I want them to do and I often struggle to squeeze all of the juice out of the cans without making a huge mess.

Tuna Squish 3

This is a great product because once I have used the can opener to open my can of tuna (I use an electric can opener, though I was sent a manual opener to use with my Tuna Squish review.) I just have to simply insert the can into the Tuna Squish as pictured above making sure that the lid is in place.

TunaSquish 1

Once the can is in place I squish the Tuna Squish and tilt it over the sink to let all of the juices escape the can and when I lift the arms again the lid will come up with it because of a magnet in the Tuna Squish.  This keeps me from getting my hands covered in Tuna juice as well as helps to keep me safe from getting cut by any sharp edges that may be on the can lid when I try to pry it out of the can after squeezing the juice from the can.

HOW THE TUNA SQUISH WORKS

  • Insert opened can into Tuna Squish
  • Squeeze handles, turn sideways to drain the liquid
  • Separate handles, magnet in upper handle lifts lid off can, no digging for sharp lid = no injury
  • Press release button, dump lid directly into trash

*works on 5oz and 7oz can sizes

Tuna Salad Recipe

My Tuna Salad recipe is based off of a 7oz can of Tuna. You can use any brand of tuna fish. I personally do not have a favorite. I buy whatever brand is on sale or whatever one I happen to have coupons for at the time. I feel this is the best option when you live on a fixed income.

Items You Will Need:

  • 1 7 oz. Can of Tuna Fish
  • 3 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 small Yellow Onion
  • Green Grapes
  • 1 Dill Pickle
  • Whole Wheat Bread or Sourdough Bread

Directions:

Step 1: Open can of Tuna Fish with your can opener and then use the Tuna Squish to squeeze out all excess juice from the Tuna Fish.  You will want to make sure that it is nice and dry and dump into a small bowl.

Step 2: Dice up 1/4 of the small yellow onion and dump into the bowl of Tuna Fish.  If you are like me you will want to dice it up pretty small.  Not so small as that it could be mistaken for minced onions.  I like to use my pinky nail as a measurement tool and like to have my onions just smaller than the size of my pinky nail.  This is a measurement that however will be different for each person.

Step 3: Chop up about 4-6 green grapes into pieces that are the same in size as your onions.  Add the chopped up grapes into the bowl as well.

Step 4: Take 1/4 of the Dill Pickle and chop it up into pieces just like the grapes and onion so that it matches the same size.  Keeping all of these ingredients similar in size seems to make it taste better because your odds are pretty good that you will have relatively even amounts of each in each bite of Tuna Salad.

Step 5: Add in 3 Tablespoons of mayonnaise to the bowl with all of the above ingredients.  I like to use the spoon that I used to measure the mayonnaise with to mix my mixture.  Instead of stirring it I findthat folding the mixture seems to work a lot better and easier when trying to evenly disperse the ingredients through out the bowl.

Step 6: Toast up two slices of whole wheat bread till they are a medium brown in color and are really crisp.  I prefer using a thicker slice of whole wheat bread or a really fresh slice of sourdough bread.  I prefer the sourdough, but it isn’t always easy to find a high quality sourdough bread to use for sandwiches.

Just put the Tuna Salad onto the toast and cut on a diagonal and voile! You have one amazing sandwich.

Tuna Squish

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
