How to Have a Stress Free Pharmacy Visit

May 14, 2018 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Going to the pharmacy generally is not a fun adventure for people. You have to deal with health insurance, prescription coverage, and health concerns are things that we never get excited to do. As someone who has on-going health concerns I know how frustrating going to the pharmacy can be. I also have learned some little tricks along the way to make the visit a bit more stress free.

Be Prepared.

When you go to the pharmacy be prepared. This means have all of your scripts with you and know what medications you are filling. You will also want to have your health insurance card(s) in hand so that you can show them to the pharmacist it needed. Finally, you want to always take the time to talk with the pharmacist if you believe there will be any complications when filling your prescriptions. This is also a great time to learn about your medication if you have never taken it before.

I personally always talk with my pharmacist because I like to remind them that I have two forms of health insurance.  I make sure that they know to bill my Primary and then my secondary insurance so that I get the best converage for my medications.  This is especially important because not all of my medications are covered by my Primary insurance and the secondary insurance will not pay for it if you don’t bill the primary insurance first.  If you are someone who has two forms of insurance like I do then this is something you will want to remember so that you can avoid any headaches that might arise from the pharmacy telling you that a prescription isn’t covered by your insurance.

Look for Savings.

You may not realize it, but there are other ways that you can save money on your prescriptions other than just with your insurance provider. For instance there are things like the advair diskus discount card that you can find online for a variety of different medications.

On top of savings cards like I mentioned there are additional savings programs that some pharmacy’s have available to some customers.  I have Medicare and because of that Walgreens offers a lot of prescriptions and low to no cost for Medicare Part D holders.  This is a great way to know that some of your prescriptions will be covered at a higher value than it might be from another pharmacy.

Do Your Research.

If you have a new prescription that you were prescribed by your doctor do the necessary research before going to the pharmacy.  This means you can contact your insurance ahead of time to see if the medication is covered by them.  I keep the website for Medicare Part D coverage saved on my computer because I feel like I am always checking to see if a medication is covered by them before I look into my Medicaid coverage.  Sometimes being able to check online without calling is helpful.  For me it is because there is always a 30 minute plus wait when I call Medicare.

How do you make sure you have a stress free pharmacy visit?

Amwell Makes it Easy to Talk to a Doctor

June 24, 2015 by Ashley Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Amwell. All opinions are my own.

I was given the opportunity to sample Amwell‘s services so that I could give you my informed opinion of their services.  I will be honest and tell you that I had not know much about the company until I created my account online and started looking the the contents of the website.  Signing up for an account is simple and painless.  If and when you create an account make sure that you snag the discount code(s) so that you can save money! (I know you all are frugal like I am!)

Amwell login

I was a little unsure of where to apply the coupon code(s) that you get provided with, but did figure it out.  You will be able to use the various different coupons when you go to pay for your visit with the doctor.  As you can see in the image below you can get your first visit free just like I did with the coupon code MOMSLOVEAMWELL.  You will need to use this code when you go to pay for your first visit.

When you login online you will see a list of services.  Under each category you will see a list of Providers to choose from.  On this list you will see a green box that says Start Visit if the provider is online at that time.  All Medical visits are $49 per visit which is a great deal compared to the price that many doctors will charge you even with health insurance. (Don’t forget that you can get your first visit for FREE.)

Once I had my account set up I made sure to Test my Computer so that there would be no hiccups during the visit with the provider.  This went through with no problems when my webcam was plugged in and failed without it; I made sure to test it both ways because I wanted to see how it would react without the needed components.

Amwell Computer Test

The two really important things that you will want to test is your internet speed to make sure that you have a strong enough connection so that you won’t lose connection during your visit.  (You wouldn’t want to be out money because your internet connection could not keep up.)  The second thing is to check the video tab as well because you want your video software to be up to date and it had be install some Amwell video software when I did this test.

After completing the testing you will also want to fill out as much of your health history as possible so that the Amwell will know your medical history just like any doctor would know when you go in for a new doctor visit.  You can mark it so that your treating doctor cannot see your health history, but I am not sure why you would want to do that.  Once you have all of the above completed you will be ready for a visit with one of the provider’s.

If the doctor is with a patient you will be put in a waiting room and things will go forward from that point.  I really enjoyed the visit and explained what I was doing and asked some general questions to just see what the doctor knew.  I was pleased to find out that they knew what Charcot Marie Tooth disease was since so many doctors don’t seem to know what my handicap is off the top of their head.

Open Enrollment Concerns for Families and Businesses #Aflac

November 5, 2013 by Ashley 1 Comment

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Aflac. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Aflac duckI have not brought my political views to the blog very often and I believe it was actually only once before this that I have even mentioned it.  If you are on Twitter or have friended me on Facebook then you probably don’t know where I stand.  I have switched to the Libertarian party and I admit I am not a fan of the Health Care Reform Act, but regardless of that we need to be informed about Open enrollment.  I want to talk with you today about Open Enrollment Concerns that you might have, things  that Aflac has done a great job of informing people about.

So many people are confused and do not know what to expect.  This new Health Care Reform Act Open Enrollment went live October 1st and there have been many problems and thousands of questions being asked by both employees and businesses about what to expect and what changes will be coming in the upcoming months.  Recently Aflac ran survey in which they found out that 60% of employees have not begun to educate themselves on the changes  that are coming and nearly a third of employees are confused, worried, and/or unsure about the changes that heir employers will be making to their health insurance plans.

Afac FootballAflac has a ton of Open Enrollment Resources available online for both employees and small business owners.  I urge you to not be one of the people in the 60% that are not informed on what is coming.  Do your research and learn what these changes can mean for you and your family because if you do not do this then you might be in for a shock when the changes hit.  There has been a lot of talk about insurance premiums and deductibles rising for many people and this is something you will want to watch for- to make sure you have a health insurance policy that is in your monthly budget.
