Hills Science Diet Recall – 62 Bags of Dry Dog Food‏

June 3, 2014 by Ashley Leave a Comment

I got notice today that a Hills Science Diet recall was voluntarily made for 62 bags of dry dog food that were distributed to 17 locations in California, Hawaii, and Nevada.  This recall was voluntarily made due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination.

Product Name Bag Size SKU “Best Before” Date/ Production Code
Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed 15.5 lbs. 9097 08 2015 M094

I have attached the image that Hill’s Science posted about the recall so that you can check your bags of Adult Small & Toy Breed Dog Food.  If you do purchase this food and reside in these areas I urge you to check your bags and make sure that your dogs are safe.  I know my furry companions are my babies and I would not want them getting sick off of their pet food.

How To Keep Your Old Cat Young #HillsPet Campaign

Keeping an old cat young isn’t the easiest of tasks.  There are many things to consider and if you are like how I was a few years back you might not know what the options are or what ages they consider cats to be “mature” or “senior” and that is what we are going to talk about.  Back at the end of 2010 we lost our beloved Tiger.  He was 13 years old and he had been showing all of the signs of old age, but I had only had him a few years and in all honesty I didn’t know that there were different things that I should be doing for him.

I guess it makes sense because I knew that there were different products out there for “senior dogs” that are 7+ years old.  Now, because cats generally live longer than dogs they aren’t thought to be seniors when they are 7 years old.  You want to use this cat age calculator to keep your cat healthy and at the age range of 7-10 cats are “mature” and cats 11+ are “senior”.  This helps you have a reference point to go by when looking into what you can be doing for your cat to keep him/her young and healthy.

kitty

When it comes to keeping your cat healthy Science Diet knows what they are doing.  They have diets specifically tailored to cat of varying ages while other cat foods only tailor to kittens and adults.  Now my cats are between the ages of 3 and 4.  We don’t know their actual age since they were both strays living together that we brought in, but because I didn’t know about the need to change their diet with our previous cat I want to make sure I do it right and I have already picked out their food for when they get older.

My kitties will be starting on a Hill’s® Science Diet® Mature Adult Indoor diet since they are completely indoor cats and I have never seen a need for a hairball specific diet either. Neither of my cats really suffer from them. There will be an occasion hairball that they hack up, but it is very rare when that occurs. And because I know my cats are going to be taken care of when they get even older reaching 11 years old I will be again changing their diet to the Hill’s® Science Diet® Senior 11+ Indoor Age Defying food.

I will be doing this because I want to be able to see my cats start to defy aging with the proper diet. I want to see these benefits that Hills Science says pet parents will see:

  • Increased play and interaction
  • Increased agility
  • Fewer accidents in the house
  • Less sleeping

Believe me my cats are going to live long lives and with this you can help increase your cat’s life expectancy with the use of senior cat food.

Grain-Free Cat Food Can Be Good For Your Cat {Giveaway}

Pet health is very important starting at a young age.  Choosing the right cat food is one of those things you need to make a decision on early enough.  Mind you, you can change their diet as they age you just want to transition them into it as to not disrupt their bodily functions as it gets used to the different nutrients and vitamins that it is bringing in.  When you choose which food you want to feed your cat you need to think about what the food is made of.

Grain Free Cat Food is trending and a popular buzzword right now.  The thing is most people don’t really know what the difference is or how their cat can benefit from grain free food.  I have been doing some research for awhile on how this can be beneficial to my two wonderful cats because for a while now one of them has had a lot of skin problems that we have been fighting to fix and deal with.  Some cats have allergies or sensitivity to grains that can result in itchy, dry skin and upset stomachs. Grain-free foods can help cats avoid these allergens which makes for an equally happy cat and owner!

The first thing you need to think about when feeding your cat is think about what is healthy for you. You would not want your diet to be something that is just high in carbohydrates, right? I know you wouldn’t because you know that is not good for you. Remember this when looking at what foods you are picking out for your kitty because many of the foods out there are high in carbohydrates and a lot of the grain-free foods are even higher in carbohydrates because they replace the grains with sweet potatoes.

Cat nutrition

Hill’s Science Diet Grain-Free food does not substitute the grain from their food with products like sweet potatoes.  Instead their main ingredient is Chicken.  Yes, real chicken.  No fake over processed crap.  Real chicken with no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.  I recently was just talking about eating healthy and one of the things I know I am cutting back on is preservatives in my food.  So, the question is why wouldn’t I want to cut that out of my pet’s diet as well?  The answer is I should cut that out of their diet.  It isn’t good for us so I don’t see how it could possibly be good for them either.

I know I have shoved a lot of information down your throats all at once, but believe me you won’t regret it.  You can win 1 of 2 20 pound bags of Hill’s® Science Diet® Adult Grain-Free cat food.
