Planning Home Remodels Isn’t Easy

January 10, 2019 by Ashley Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post by Premier Surfaces Zodiaq Quartz Countertops.

We have been living in our new home for approximately 6 months and we have completed all of the necessary fixes to the house and now we are taking the time to discuss the future remodels that we would like to complete on this house. We are looking to remodel our kitchen, bathroom, and downstairs bar area. All three of these remodels will not be cheap remodels, but we know that it is best to figure out all of the details for the three different remodels before we decide which one we will want to tackle first.

The Kitchen Remodel

For us our kitchen doesn’t need a lot of attention. We have darker wood cabinets and a warm purple atmosphere that we added to the walls. I would like to add some lighter countertops as well as stainless steel appliances to really help the kitchen just pop a little bit more. I just love the look of a marbled top like this. It has color and texture to it which can help hide little messes and really help show of the beautiful colors that come out of natural wood tones.

The example above is from Premier Surfaces Zodiaq Quartz Countertops and while I definitely want countertops like these I still want to keep my deep cherry wood cabinets in the kitchen instead of going with all of the white. This might not be your cup of tea, but it is mine.

The Bathroom Remodel

Our bathroom will be a much more in depth remodel since we have to pretty much gut the entire bathroom. Let’s start this by talking about the shower and tub situation. Our bathroom features the original 1960 baby blue bathtub that was installed when the house was originally built. It also features a tub surround that was added later on. The tub surround is mint green and clashes something awful with the baby blue tub. To finish off the tub it features a three piece glass and mirrored sliding door. When we go to remodel this we would like to switch to a double sliding glass door with a stunning white tub and tiled surround. While a tiled surround is a bit pricier it has more appeal to people and overall has a much more pleasant appearance. We will have to tile the surround up quite high as to hide the bricked over window that is hiding behind the current surround.

The next task in the bathroom is replacing the toilet which matches the baby blue tub and the sink and vanity in the bathroom. Our bathroom doesn’t have a lot of space, but I would like to attempt to extend the sink area to being three under cabinet shelves with a single sink and an above wooden vanity with storage behind the mirror. Our current vanity is an ugly mirrored metal three door medicine cabinet styled vanity that I feel is a complete eyesore. We are looking to match the toilet to the new white tub/shower and then get a slap of marbled countertop for the bathroom vanity. The white and grey will look elegant and nice with the white tub. I would even make sure the tile in the shower surround match the grey hues in the marbled countertop.

The Downstairs Bar

This one I don’t even know where to start. The bar has some ugly faux white brick work for the bottom of the bar. This will have to be replaced, but with what I don’t know. Next to this is some ugly wood paneling around a few support beams in the basement that will also need to be replaced. Now that stuff is smaller tasks and things that we can easily do. Originally I thought I could just refinish our countertop on the bar, but that isn’t looking like it will be possible. The countertop looks like it is just made of laminated wood and is ugly and covered in stains, paint splatters, and god knows what else.

I am currently envisioning brightening up the black bar with a nice wood countertop to help give a clean look to the bar without making it look “fancy”. You can see the color wood that I am envisioning our bar downstairs to have. It might not come off as a traditional bar top, but it is one that I feel like fits our personalities and our decor style.

Once I have the countertops installed my next task will be to find bar stools that either match the wood coloring or choose metal chairs that have cushioned seats to give the area another pop of color.
