Have You Heard of a Revolving Diet for Your Pets? #AvoDermNatural

September 28, 2015 by Ashley 1 Comment

This post is sponsored by Avoderm and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Avoderm Rotational Menu but Parsimonious Pash only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Avoderm is not responsible for the content of this article.

AvoDerm Revolving Menu

Have you ever heard of the term AvoDerm Revolving Menu in regards to your pets diet?  I honestly had not until the other day.  I had always been told to keep my pets diets the same and to not change up their pet food because it could cause digestive problems.  Avoderm® has changed that concept for me.  Their logic makes a lot of sense to me.  You might wonder why this concept makes a whole lot of sense to me.  Let me explain what Avoderm® is all about.

Their concept is that if you vary the proteins that your pet eats just like you vary the proteins that you eat on a regular basis you could aid in minimizing food sensitivities that your pet may get through changing up what they have to digest on a regular basis.  They pride themselves on offering premium pet foods that contain the protein as the first ingredient and are all gluten free as well as grain free.  This means that they do not add potatoes or fillers to their food.  Instead it is food that is healthy for your pet.  Food that you would pride yourself on feeding your pet, especially if you are one of those people who treats their pet like they would treat their child.

AvoDerm Revolving Menu

As I do more and more research about pet food allergies I have come to wonder if Hailey, a dog that my family had for many years, may have had food allergies and we just may not have realized it.  I wonder this because my parents had to regularly give her Benadryl to stop her from itching herself raw.  It wasn’t just her though; My dog Kratos had similar issues that caused many problems over the years and it really makes me wonder now, but that is in the past.  All I can do now is hope that I help my dogs out now and in the future by feeding them food that is healthy for them.

While I don’t like to eat avocados I do realize that they are a SuperFood that is great for people as well as animals due to all of the nutrients that they are jam-packed in.  My growing child will be fed avocados when he or she is old enough for solid foods and putting that into consideration makes me believe that having avocados in my pets food would benefit them as well.  I have not known many if any pet foods to contain such an ingredient, but Avoderm® does contain avocados. They did a study and found that in a six-week trial of the food will show you results with a healthier, shinier, smoother skin and coat.

I am going to wrap this up because I think I have sold you on how amazing this food is and I think you will run off and research this AvoDerm Revolving Menu that is offered for your pet.  As I wrap this up I want to let you know that it is made in the USA specifically in California with California avocados and high quality proteins.

Diamond Pet Foods Commitment to Dog Food Safety

November 12, 2013 by Ashley 26 Comments

“This post is sponsored by Diamond Naturals on behalf of the BlogPaws Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Diamond Naturals Grain Free dog food, but Parsimonious Pash only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Diamond Naturals is not responsible for the content of this article.”

My pets really are my fur babies.  I love them and I want to know that I am keeping them healthy.  That is why I have done so much research about the food and treats that I feed my fur babies.  Making the decision on the best dog food for my dogs was hard, but as you may recall I learned a lot about grain-free dog food and realized exactly why it is important to give my dogs a high protein diet.

While doing all of my research I learned a lot about Diamond Naturals Grain-Free Dog Food.  One of the things that I learned that really excited me was all of the precautions that they put forward to make sure that their dog food during the manufacturing process is safe.  They want to make sure that the food they are producing is safe for your pooch.  Diamond Pet Foods, believes that nothing is more important to us than the safety of our products. By continuously improving performance with the latest advancements in science and technology, Diamond Pet Foods has developed a comprehensive food safety system.

E93C0144

It is with this food safety system that they have created their own rules and regulations that they believe are very important in keeping the safety of your pet’s health in mind.  They work hard at this and every aspect of the manufacturing process at Diamond Pet Foods is tested and monitored. This means that they monitor and test our raw materials, production environment, processes and finished
products for safety and to make sure that their food has no contaminants in it.  For example in each of the company’s facilities, over 1,300 microbiological tests are conducted every week, including finished product tests, in-process tests and sanitation-verification tests.

Kratos wasn’t left out! He got a fun collar and headband from @Petsmart. Isn’t he cute, too? #dogoftheday #dog #christmas #HGG #holiday #pet via parsimoniousp

Learning that they test everything in their facilities regularly was a huge plus for me.  It made me happy to know that their food is being watched and less likely to ever have recalls due to their persistence with their dog food safety precautions.  No product manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods is released into distribution without adhering to the strict standards of the company’s Test and Hold Program, in which product tests are conducted by a certified, independent laboratory. Hourly samples are collected and tested for every product produced. Every sample is kept for a time equal to the guaranteed shelf life of the product, typically 12 months.

Isn’t that great?  I think it is.  I love that the food is tested for quality up to 12 months.  I get very weary when I find products that aren’t natural that have a shelf life over 12 months.  I know that might sound silly, but that is usually a dead giveaway to a product that is full of preservatives which is not really something I want for myself or my pets.  The way I see it is if I wouldn’t want low quality food or items for me then why would I want them for my fur babies?  I wouldn’t!

Now that you know why I am excited about dogs being fed Diamonds Grain-Free Dog Food let me share with you the good news.  Diamond Naturals is sponsoring a giveaway here on Parsimonious Pash.  Isn’t that great!?  I think it is and I hope you do, too!

#HillsPet Food, Shelter and Love Program & Disaster Relief Network

My cats their first day in the new home.
My cats first day in the new home.

This month is shelter awareness month which is a big deal to me and in honor of that I wanted to talk with you a little about the #HillsPet Disaster Relief Network.  I hate thinking about pets being left family-less and I hate thinking about all of the pets that get euthanized yearly if not monthly in the United States.  My two little monsters might have ended up like so many other kitties out there if they hadn’t gotten lucky enough to be hiding out under an abandoned house next to the sweetest old lady.

This lady was nice enough to bring three extra kitties into her house that was already full of the five cats that she already owned. I could talk for hours about how grateful I am that these monsters never were taken to a shelter.  What she was doing was and is similar to what Hills Pets decided to begin doing this year with their Disaster Relief Network.

Hill’s advises pet owners to take the following steps to prepare your pet for an emergency event,
including evacuation:

  • Ensure your pet can be identified by either a microchip or collar ID tag, with updated contact information.
  • Prepare an emergency box of pet supplies that is readily accessible in the event of an evacuation. Emergency kits should include: first aid supplies and guide book; ahills-disaster-relief-hurricane-isaac-2012 3-day supply of pet food in a waterproof container and bottled water; a safety harness and leash; waste clean-up supplies; medications and medical records; a contact list of veterinarian and pet care organizations; information on your pet’s feeding routine and any behavioral issues; comfort toys; and a blanket.
  • Display a pet rescue decal on your front door or window to let first responders know there is a pet in the house. Include veterinarian’s contact information.
  • Identify a location to take your pet if you need to leave your immediate area – keep in mind that disaster shelters for people may not be able to shelter pets. Scout hotels/motels with pet friendly policies and ask relatives or friends if they could house you and/or your pet.
  • If you need to evacuate, consider taking a pet carrier or crate if possible for transport and safekeeping.
  • Carry a good picture of your pet with you in the event of separation during evacuation.  Learn where your pet likes to hide in your house because pets may hide if they are scared.  Finding them quickly will help you evacuate faster.

Hill’s Food, Shelter, & Love program has been around since 2002 and they provide bags of food as well as coupons to nearly a 1,000 shelters nation wide.  They launched their new Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love™ program April 1, soliciting advice from the shelter community, to ensure that they wisely invest their food donations in a way that maximizes the positive impact for pets. This allowed us to make two significant improvements to our program: Science Diet® pet food is now available to any eligible US shelter at a significant discount, and their program remains open 365 days a year.  The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with more than 150 eligible applications submitted within 3 months.  Their commitment to supporting animal shelters is as strong as ever.

Find out more about Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love TM Disaster Relief Network at Hill’s website. To request assistance during an emergency, shelters can contact Hill’s at DisasterRelief@hillspet.com.

How To Keep Your Old Cat Young #HillsPet Campaign

Tigger Collage

Keeping an old cat young isn’t the easiest of tasks.  There are many things to consider and if you are like how I was a few years back you might not know what the options are or what ages they consider cats to be “mature” or “senior” and that is what we are going to talk about.  Back at the end of 2010 we lost our beloved Tiger.  He was 13 years old and he had been showing all of the signs of old age, but I had only had him a few years and in all honesty I didn’t know that there were different things that I should be doing for him.

I guess it makes sense because I knew that there were different products out there for “senior dogs” that are 7+ years old.  Now, because cats generally live longer than dogs they aren’t thought to be seniors when they are 7 years old.  You want to use this cat age calculator to keep your cat healthy and at the age range of 7-10 cats are “mature” and cats 11+ are “senior”.  This helps you have a reference point to go by when looking into what you can be doing for your cat to keep him/her young and healthy.

kitty

When it comes to keeping your cat healthy Science Diet knows what they are doing.  They have diets specifically tailored to cat of varying ages while other cat foods only tailor to kittens and adults.  Now my cats are between the ages of 3 and 4.  We don’t know their actual age since they were both strays living together that we brought in, but because I didn’t know about the need to change their diet with our previous cat I want to make sure I do it right and I have already picked out their food for when they get older.

My kitties will be starting on a Hill’s® Science Diet® Mature Adult Indoor diet since they are completely indoor cats and I have never seen a need for a hairball specific diet either. Neither of my cats really suffer from them. There will be an occasion hairball that they hack up, but it is very rare when that occurs. And because I know my cats are going to be taken care of when they get even older reaching 11 years old I will be again changing their diet to the Hill’s® Science Diet® Senior 11+ Indoor Age Defying food.

I will be doing this because I want to be able to see my cats start to defy aging with the proper diet. I want to see these benefits that Hills Science says pet parents will see:

  • Increased play and interaction
  • Increased agility
  • Fewer accidents in the house
  • Less sleeping

Believe me my cats are going to live long lives and with this you can help increase your cat’s life expectancy with the use of senior cat food.
