My Cats are “Healthy Pet Happy Pet” #HealthyPetHappyPet

May 10, 2016 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Up until recently my pets have been my life and were my only children that I loved and cared for; that changed two months ago with the birth of my son though it has not changed how much I love and care for their little furry faces.  Due to my mothering instincts I have been changing up all of their diets because I feel that I need to make sure that I have a healthy pet which will then create a happy pet.  This means I have been seeking out healthy cat food that isn’t made cheaply and is not full of fillers that they don’t need.  My hopes is that my kitten will grow up strong and healthy and that we can get our older cat to lose a couple of pounds because he is slightly over weight.

I am thankful to say that this post is sponsored by CANIDAE® Pet Food and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer NetworkTM. I am being compensated to help create awareness about the GrainFree PURE® line of pet food but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. CANIDAE® is not responsible for the content of this article.  It is because I am working with CANIDAE® that I am able to feed my premium fresh cat food that is grain-free and high in protein just like a cat would eat in the wild.  I could tell from the moment that I brought the CANIDAE® Grain Free PURE food into the home that it was going to be a huge hit with our cats.

Whenever we bring home a new bag of cat food the cats swarm the bag, but with this food they not only swarmed the bag, but begged me to open it by rubbing against my legs as well as talking to me with their sweet little meows that always make my heart melt.  It was very exciting to see the change in their attitude.  I believe that they were able to tell that this would taste so much better than their old cat food.  There were many reasons that I was excited to give my cats this food, but here are the reasons that really forced a change in the way we are feeding our cats:

  • Grain-Free
  • No Chicken by-product meal
  • 7-10 key ingredients
  • Probiotics added to kibble after cooking.

Out of these reasons the last one is the one that really sold me.  I have recently realized how important probiotics are.  At the end of my pregnancy I began taking probiotics and my newborn son also takes them because they really help with our digestion.  I can only imagine that they will help our cats out just as much as it has been helping us out these past few months.  I also love that CANIDAE is an independent family-owned business that has been around since 1996.  This makes me feel like they care about their product as well as the animals that they make their food for.  Their tagline even accentuates this point:

Pet Food Made By Pet People™

HealthyPetHappyPet

If you think you can’t afford a cat food like this you might be wrong; you can find coupons for their pet food online.  Don’t step away because of a dollar amount just yet.  Remember that you want a healthy pet just as much as I do and I have managed to find a way to buy this food for my kitties on a fixed income with a newborn baby boy.  If I can do it so can you.  It sometimes means that you have to go through your budget and get rid of some non-essential expenses, but that is okay because family should come first and your pets are just as much family as are your children.  I would also recommend that you follow CANIDAE on social media to keep up on their products as well as any deals that might occur.

Before I leave you I want to share CANIDAE’s True Story video with you.  In this video you will learn just a little more about the brand that I believe will sell you on their product.  If that is the case then you will be wanting to head over to their store locator so that you can find a store near you that sells their products for your pets.

Is your pet a Healthy Pet, Happy Pet?

Have You Heard of a Revolving Diet for Your Pets? #AvoDermNatural

September 28, 2015 by Ashley 1 Comment

This post is sponsored by Avoderm and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Avoderm Rotational Menu but Parsimonious Pash only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Avoderm is not responsible for the content of this article.

AvoDerm Revolving Menu

Have you ever heard of the term AvoDerm Revolving Menu in regards to your pets diet?  I honestly had not until the other day.  I had always been told to keep my pets diets the same and to not change up their pet food because it could cause digestive problems.  Avoderm® has changed that concept for me.  Their logic makes a lot of sense to me.  You might wonder why this concept makes a whole lot of sense to me.  Let me explain what Avoderm® is all about.

Their concept is that if you vary the proteins that your pet eats just like you vary the proteins that you eat on a regular basis you could aid in minimizing food sensitivities that your pet may get through changing up what they have to digest on a regular basis.  They pride themselves on offering premium pet foods that contain the protein as the first ingredient and are all gluten free as well as grain free.  This means that they do not add potatoes or fillers to their food.  Instead it is food that is healthy for your pet.  Food that you would pride yourself on feeding your pet, especially if you are one of those people who treats their pet like they would treat their child.

AvoDerm Revolving Menu

As I do more and more research about pet food allergies I have come to wonder if Hailey, a dog that my family had for many years, may have had food allergies and we just may not have realized it.  I wonder this because my parents had to regularly give her Benadryl to stop her from itching herself raw.  It wasn’t just her though; My dog Kratos had similar issues that caused many problems over the years and it really makes me wonder now, but that is in the past.  All I can do now is hope that I help my dogs out now and in the future by feeding them food that is healthy for them.

While I don’t like to eat avocados I do realize that they are a SuperFood that is great for people as well as animals due to all of the nutrients that they are jam-packed in.  My growing child will be fed avocados when he or she is old enough for solid foods and putting that into consideration makes me believe that having avocados in my pets food would benefit them as well.  I have not known many if any pet foods to contain such an ingredient, but Avoderm® does contain avocados. They did a study and found that in a six-week trial of the food will show you results with a healthier, shinier, smoother skin and coat.

I am going to wrap this up because I think I have sold you on how amazing this food is and I think you will run off and research this AvoDerm Revolving Menu that is offered for your pet.  As I wrap this up I want to let you know that it is made in the USA specifically in California with California avocados and high quality proteins.

#HillsPet Food, Shelter and Love Program & Disaster Relief Network

My cats their first day in the new home.
My cats first day in the new home.

This month is shelter awareness month which is a big deal to me and in honor of that I wanted to talk with you a little about the #HillsPet Disaster Relief Network.  I hate thinking about pets being left family-less and I hate thinking about all of the pets that get euthanized yearly if not monthly in the United States.  My two little monsters might have ended up like so many other kitties out there if they hadn’t gotten lucky enough to be hiding out under an abandoned house next to the sweetest old lady.

This lady was nice enough to bring three extra kitties into her house that was already full of the five cats that she already owned. I could talk for hours about how grateful I am that these monsters never were taken to a shelter.  What she was doing was and is similar to what Hills Pets decided to begin doing this year with their Disaster Relief Network.

Hill’s advises pet owners to take the following steps to prepare your pet for an emergency event,
including evacuation:

  • Ensure your pet can be identified by either a microchip or collar ID tag, with updated contact information.
  • Prepare an emergency box of pet supplies that is readily accessible in the event of an evacuation. Emergency kits should include: first aid supplies and guide book; ahills-disaster-relief-hurricane-isaac-2012 3-day supply of pet food in a waterproof container and bottled water; a safety harness and leash; waste clean-up supplies; medications and medical records; a contact list of veterinarian and pet care organizations; information on your pet’s feeding routine and any behavioral issues; comfort toys; and a blanket.
  • Display a pet rescue decal on your front door or window to let first responders know there is a pet in the house. Include veterinarian’s contact information.
  • Identify a location to take your pet if you need to leave your immediate area – keep in mind that disaster shelters for people may not be able to shelter pets. Scout hotels/motels with pet friendly policies and ask relatives or friends if they could house you and/or your pet.
  • If you need to evacuate, consider taking a pet carrier or crate if possible for transport and safekeeping.
  • Carry a good picture of your pet with you in the event of separation during evacuation.  Learn where your pet likes to hide in your house because pets may hide if they are scared.  Finding them quickly will help you evacuate faster.

Hill’s Food, Shelter, & Love program has been around since 2002 and they provide bags of food as well as coupons to nearly a 1,000 shelters nation wide.  They launched their new Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love™ program April 1, soliciting advice from the shelter community, to ensure that they wisely invest their food donations in a way that maximizes the positive impact for pets. This allowed us to make two significant improvements to our program: Science Diet® pet food is now available to any eligible US shelter at a significant discount, and their program remains open 365 days a year.  The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with more than 150 eligible applications submitted within 3 months.  Their commitment to supporting animal shelters is as strong as ever.

Find out more about Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love TM Disaster Relief Network at Hill’s website. To request assistance during an emergency, shelters can contact Hill’s at DisasterRelief@hillspet.com.

Why Choose a Grain-Free Dog Food? #DiamondNaturals

October 14, 2013 by Ashley 2 Comments

This post is sponsored by Diamond Naturals on behalf of the BlogPaws Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Diamond Naturals Grain Free dog food, but Parsimonious Pash only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. It was just a couple of months ago that I was talking with you about how grain-free cat food can be important for your cat.  What I didn’t touch on was just how important grain-free dog food can be as well.  The first thing that you might want to consider when you think about your dog’s diet is to whether or not you are feeding it something that a dog would normally get in their diet before they were domesticated.

Remember that dog’s are closely related to coyotes and wolfs.  It is because of this that a protein-based diet free of grains more closely mimics a dog’s ancestral beginnings.  Grain-free formulas contain more meat-based protein, as well as easy-to-digest animal fats that a dog would have eaten in the wild.  This is something that many people and manufacturer’s hadn’t been putting into consideration when mass producing dog food for our pets.

happy kratosAnother great reason to switch your dog to a grain-free diet is because grains, like corn and wheat, are a frequent cause of canine allergies (just like they can be for felines) and can be more difficult for some dogs to digest.  Choosing a grain-free diet can help lessen food allergies and optimize digestion.  I have personally known some dogs that would benefit from a diet like this.  For instance, my dog always had a lot of digestive issues when it came to what he ate.  I searched high and low and was so excited when I came across this grain-free food.

Kratos was able to digest the food easier.  His bowel movements weren’t so erratic and he was no longer having any issues going to the bathroom and that is really what had been concerning me.  One of the things that I love about Diamond Naturals Grain-Free dog food is that they have three protein-rich dry dog food formulas that are enriched with power-packed fruits and vegetables, natural antioxidants and no grains for all stages of a dog’s life.  These formulas include: happy sparkyBeef & Sweet Potato, Chicken & Sweet Potato, Whitefish & Sweet Potato.

You might not know this, but sweet potatoes provide complex carbohydrates for all-day energy, while fruits and vegetables add powerful natural antioxidants for optimal health and vitality.  That is something great to remember not just for your dog, but for yourself as well.  You can check out all of the ingredients that are in Diamond Naturals Grain Free Dog Food right here.
