How to Catch More Trout When You Go Fly Fishing

June 22, 2014 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Fly fishing can be either be an exciting hobby or a serious sport. Many new fly fishermen have a difficult time catching them. You will need to perfect your technique to catch them. Here are some tips to help you out.

Avoid Frightening the Fish

This should be obvious advice, but it is a lot easier to follow than you may think. Most people don’t realize just how easy it is to scare trout away.

It is important to realize that weather can have a significant impact on trout’s behavior. They tend to be much more sluggish as the weather drops. They also tend to be more skittish during the daylight hours. You will want to tread much more carefully if you are fishing in the daytime or winter months. You will catch more if you are quiet and are willing to wait. Of course, it is better to time your fishing trips when they are most likely to bite.

Stay Near the Deeper Waters

Active trout are much more likely to frequent deeper bodies of water when going with Flying Pig Raftingor any other company. You will probably want to try to do most of your fishing there.

Many people move to different spots after catching new fish. However, most of the fish are probably still in the same area that you have been fishing in. Moving around can also spook the fish. It is a good idea to keep rooted in the deep areas where the fish seem to be biting. You may want to change your flies frequently to get more of them.

Tailor Your Bait to the Trout

You will need to choose your bait carefully. There are many different types of trout that have different diets. Black stoneflies are a great type of bait for winter trout. However, some large stacked trout enjoy eating small mice.

You will need to research the trout in the regions that you are fishing and find out what they prefer. You will catch a lot more fish if you can tailor your bait to them.

Perfect Your Cast

Learning to cast your reel properly is one of the most important parts of fly fishing for trout. You will want to try to make short casts with minimal motion when you finally swing. However, it is a good idea to swing your flies a bit first, because that tends to attract more trout that have been dormant in the water for a while.

Mastering your cast will take practice, but is definitely worth it I the long. As Arnold Palmer once said, “the more I practice, the luckier I get!”

Tips for Choosing a Car as a Triathlete

June 3, 2014 by Ashley Leave a Comment

Being a triathlete takes a lot of time and preparation. One thing that people don’t often think about is the type of car that they are driving. This is something that you are going to want to give a lot of thought before training or competing in an event.

Picking the right vehicle is actually a very important decision. Here are some tips to help choose the right vehicle.

Durability

Durability is one of the most important factors that you will want to take into consideration before any event. You may need to compete or drive through very rough terrain. Fortunately, there are a number of great vehicles that are worth investing in.

Bike_Racks1Bike Rack

You will need to have space to transport your bike. You may not have enough space inside your vehicle if you have to transport other triathletes, family members, pets or other athletic gear. An exterior mount can be a great idea. Storing your vehicle on the back of your car may be better to cut wind resistance, but a top mount could be a smarter option if you are transporting multiple bikes.

Proper Ventilation

Being a triathlete is very strenuous work. You want to make sure that your vehicle is properly ventilated after your training. This will keep you from overheating and help repel odors after a sweaty workout.

Visibility for Parking

Some events take place in cities with limited parking. You may need to park your vehicle on the side of the street. It is a good idea to choose a vehicle with great visibility so that you can parallel park easily before competing.

Rear Hatch to Relax

There will be times when you are tired and are going to need a place to kick back and relax. You won’t want to need to do that outside, especially if it is raining or scorching heat.

Your best option is to have a rear hatch that you can open up when needed. You can use this as a space to relax, prepare a meal or dry off after swimming.

Complimentary Colors

Many triathletes choose cars based on their colors.  They may want to a car that complements the color of their USA Triathalon sticker, their bike or running shorts.

Easy to Clean Seats

Most triathletes don’t have any time to shower after their events. You want to make sure that your seats won’t become too nasty after your events. Fortunately, there are a number of cars with seats that are much easier to clean than others.

Space for Beverages

You will want to make sure that you have plenty of space in your vehicle to store beverages after you are done working out. You will ideally want enough space to carry 12 Gatorades or waters. Some people also want space to store a few beers to relax after they have had time to hydrate themselves.

Summer is Upon us… It’s Vacation Time

May 29, 2014 by Ashley Leave a Comment

BeFunky_null_2.jpgSummer is pretty much upon  us now.  At least it feels like summer and that gets me thinking about vacations.  I have taken so many different kinds of vacations over the years.  They were all so much fun in such different ways.  My summer vacations as a child were always a favorite past time for me.  It didn’t matter if we weren’t going far.  All that mattered was that I was getting to go somewhere.
Some of my favorite trips were simple fishing trips or camping trips.  I did also love going on road trips out west or east as well.  Everything was so much fun and I know I was a lucky child to get to go on as many vacations as I did.  I am a simple girl at heart and that is why I always loved those simple trips so much more than the others.  I also cannot deny my love for water is part of what made my camping and fishing trips so special to me.

file1971281801174But the one thing that I always wanted to do and still haven’t gotten to do was go on a cruise.  I think it would be so much fun to get to be at the sea for an extended time.  I have spent years dreaming about going on a ship experience like this and after much debate I think that out of all of the different places that I could go on a vacation tour to, but what I would love to have the chance to go on one of the red sea cruises.

For me, personally, this would be the best vacation ever because it is something that I have dreamt of for so many years.  I know that someday I will fulfill this dream and I have a feeling it will be just as amazing as I have always dreamed it will be.

Do you have a favorite vacation or one that you have been dreaming of taking?

It’s Better to be Safe than to be Sorry.

I am one of those people that many people say are a little crazy, maybe even a little insane, but isn’t it a saying that “it’s better to be safe than to be sorry?”  That is part of the reason why I find it to be important to be stocked for emergency situations by having emergency survival kits in and around the home.  Whether you are preparing for natural disaster’s, the break down of the government, a black out, or some other catastrophe you will want to make sure that your family is safe.

Using a Remote Training Collar For Your Dog

November 20, 2013 by Ashley 2 Comments

AbbyThere are many owners whose dogs need training in one area or another. Some dogs need training so they will not jump up on visitors. Other dogs need to be trained to stay with their owners while they are walking off the leash. A remote training collar for dogs can be helpful in many of these instances. Discover some typical training scenarios where this type of collar can be helpful.

An owner may have a dog that runs off with other dogs while they’re walking in the woods together. A training collar like this one can help to teach the dog to stay with its owner. The owner may allow the dog to play with other dogs while in an enclosed area such as a dog park. But, the training collar can help prevent the dog from running away with other dogs while walking off leash in the woods. This training may keep the dog from being injured by other dogs or stop it from running into the street while playing with other canines.

Another owner may have a dog that doesn’t come when it is called by its owner. This can be annoying to an owner as well as dangerous to the dog. For instance, the owner may call the dog to come when it is about to wander onto a nearby road. If the dog doesn’t come to the owner, it may be injured or killed. This type of collar can help protect the dog from dangerous circumstances.
