My Smile360 #JuicyBirdProject- Kikkoman Brining Review
I am very late with this post which is kind of sad because I am a huge fan of Kikkoman Soy Sauce. This is something that is a staple in our diet. When I buy soy sauce it is always their Soy Sauce. I prefer the taste of it over anything else which is why I was so excited to be given the opportunity to participate in the #JuicyBirdProject with Kikkoman and Smiley360. I am honestly not the best cook out there and know very few meals so I took everything over to my father in laws house for one of our monthly family dinners.
As a member of Smiley360, I received a Kikkoman package to get started; it included a bottle of soy sauce, a super cute pot holder, and a sushi duck that my cats love to play with for some odd reason. Along with all of this were instructions on brining a whole chicken. In all honesty we did not completely follow the instructions though I am going to post them below. I watched and helped my father in law brine and cook the chicken since I have never cooked one myself.
- 1 gallon of Cold Water
- 3/4 cup Kikkoman Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce
- 3/4 cup kosher salt
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoons dried sage
- 1 tablespoons dried celery seed
- 1/2 tablespoon dried thyme
For the chicken we mixed our ingredients that were very similar to this in a large pot and cooled it to room temperature and placed the chicken in the brine and put it in the fridge for around 4 or 5 hours before we put it in the oven at 375 and cooked it until the outside was crisp. I have learned from my father in law to watch the chicken and not just go by time because ovens can heat unevenly and you do not want to over cook the meat.
Taking it out of the oven was the fun part. It looked so good, nice and brown and it smelled really good. We did not wait long before we carved it and ate one really delicious meal that even my boyfriends little brothers ate and they are super picky eaters.
Disclosure: As a member of Smiley360, I received the Kikkoman kit mentioned above. No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own.
